What a reporter records

Long sit-down interviews, phone calls, briefings and the meeting that ran three hours.

Interviews and calls

Sit-down interviews are usually recorded on a phone or a handheld recorder; phone and video interviews on the call app's own recorder. Recording a call needs the consent the law where you are requires. Files up to 500 MB go into the box above; a long video continues on upload page, up to 10 hours or 5 GB.

Briefings and press conferences

A press conference streamed to YouTube, including a live replay, can be pasted as a link, and so can a Vimeo link or a Google Drive file a press office shared. A briefing on another player is downloaded first. Each comes back with chapters for every question from the floor.

What you get to write from

A brief with the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, every name, number and date said, the questions the recording answers, and a chat over the transcript to ask where the minister mentioned the budget. Interviewees are named in the summary and chapters.

The caution: check quotes against the audio

An AI transcript is a fast first draft. Before a quote goes into print, play it at its timestamp and confirm the words, especially names, numbers and anything said quickly. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, which matters when a source asked for discretion.

Where interview transcription costs a story

The interview ended at four. The copy is due at six. The best quote is somewhere in hour two.

✗ Scrubbing through audio

Reporters replay long recordings hunting for one line, or type the quotes they think they need and miss the better one.

  • Two hours replayed to find one quote
  • Notes that disagree with the tape
  • Press conference clips with no context
  • Free tools that stop after a short clip
  • Upload caps below a long interview
  • A subscription for irregular use

✓ The full interview in minutes

Upload once, search the text, and play back only the passages you will quote.

  • About 4 minutes for two hours
  • Chapters that mark each topic
  • Figures and dates listed in the brief
  • Quotes checked at their timestamps
  • DOCX to share with an editor
  • Packs that never expire

00:06:30 Let's go back to the decision in March. Who was in the room when it was made?
00:34:18 We had the numbers by the end of January. The problem was nobody wanted to be the one to say it.
01:12:45 I want to be careful here. That part is background, not for attribution.
01:58:02 Last question. If you could change one thing about how it was handled, what would it be?

FAQ

Transcription for journalists, answered.

How quickly is a long interview transcribed?

Roughly 2 minutes for each audio hour. A 90-minute interview is ready in around 3 minutes, a two-hour one in about 4, so the text is waiting before you have filed your notes.

What does a single interview cost?

On a first visit the opening minutes are a free preview. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes. Credits never expire.

Is it accurate enough to quote?

It is a strong draft, not a final check. Verify every quote against the audio at its timestamp before publication, particularly names, numbers and accented or fast speech.

Does anything join my call or interview?

No. Nothing joins a live call. You record however you normally do, then upload the file afterwards or paste a link.

I interview in more than one language.

Language detection covers 99 languages and picks the main one in each file. An interview in Spanish, Japanese or Hebrew comes back in that language.

What do I get to export?

TXT and DOCX for writing and sharing with an editor, SRT and VTT for captioning a video interview, and JSON for a newsroom tool. All five come from one run.
