Transcribe press conferences held in Japan.

To transcribe a 記者会見 recorded in Japan, upload the file or paste its YouTube link: a 2-hour press conference in Japanese comes back in about 4 minutes, with key quotes timestamped. A 90-minute conference is 90 minutes of credit, so five of them, 450 minutes, fit the $6 pack of 500, and the first 20 minutes are free.

For reporters, PR teams and researchers

A long 記者会見 becomes text you can quote by the minute it was said.

Quotes you can verify

The summary lifts the key quotes with the speaker named and a timestamp beside each one. Before a line goes into a story, jump to that second of the audio and hear it again; the remark and its context sit on the same page.

The question round, in order

Most of the length of a press conference is the 質疑応答, reporter after reporter. Chapters mark where the opening statement ends and the questions begin, and the questions the recording answers are listed, so one exchange is found in seconds.

Arithmetic for a busy month

Twenty briefings of an hour each come to 1,200 minutes, inside the $12 pack of 2,000. A single 2-hour conference uses 120 minutes of the $6 pack and leaves 380. Credits never expire, so a quiet month carries over.

From a stream or a file

Many press conferences are streamed and kept on YouTube, so the link goes straight in. A file recorded on a camera or a recorder in the room goes through upload page, up to 10 hours or 5 GB.

Why press recordings stall

The answer you need was given at minute 74, somewhere between two other questions.

✗ Scrubbing the replay

Long Japanese press conferences are hard to search by ear, and deadlines do not wait.

  • Replaying to find one answer
  • Quotes typed from memory
  • Long streams cut short elsewhere
  • Interpreted passages lost
  • No timestamps to cite
  • Hours of audio per story

✓ A press conference as text

Each recording returns as a searchable transcript with the brief on top.

  • 2 hours back in about 4 min
  • Japanese detected, no setting
  • Quotes named and timestamped
  • Chapters at each new question
  • Names, dates and figures listed
  • Any length up to 10 hours

FAQ

Press conferences in Japan: frequent questions.

How long does a 2-hour 記者会見 take to transcribe?

Close to 4 minutes, given a pace of about 2 minutes per hour of audio. A 90-minute briefing is back in about 3, so a transcript can be open before the replay has been edited. The public proof at /proof/long-files shows a 9.31-hour file finished in 1,033 seconds, so even an all-day briefing marathon is not a wait.

What does a month of press conferences cost?

Five 90-minute conferences are 450 minutes and fit the $6 pack of 500. Twenty one-hour briefings are 1,200 minutes on the $12 pack of 2,000. A newsroom transcribing more than 2,000 minutes a month would use the $24 pack of 5,000. Prices are in USD. A first-time visitor's recording up to 20 minutes is transcribed in full; a longer one is previewed, and a pack transcribes the rest from where the preview stopped.

Is there a file size limit for a broadcast-quality recording?

One file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, and before the first pack an upload goes up to 2 GB. A 2-hour video at 5 Mbps works out to 4.5 GB (5,000,000 bits a second, divided by 8, times 7,200 seconds), so either buy a pack first or upload the audio track alone. Video from a press-pool camera is often larger than the audio needs, and the speech is all that is transcribed.

What happens with interpreted passages?

Japanese and English are among 99 languages detected automatically, and a recording is detected on its main language, with switches handled. Interpreted passages are transcribed as spoken; check any you plan to quote against the audio. Names of people and organisations are listed in the brief as they were heard, so confirm the kanji of a name with the press release.

Can the transcript be split by speaker?

The spokesperson and the reporters are named in the summary, the key quotes and the chapters. The transcript itself runs in time order with timestamps, which is how you find any exchange quickly. If a reporter's question is hard to hear from the back of the room, the answer is usually clear, and the timestamp shows where to listen.

Which formats can I export, and who sees the recording?

DOCX and TXT for copy, SRT and VTT for subtitles on a replay, JSON for a database. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and a press recording can be deleted the moment the story runs. Deleting removes the recording and its transcript from your account.
