Transcribe a two-hour focus group with the quotes ready for the report.
A two-hour focus group is 120 minutes of audio, and it comes back as text in about 4 minutes, with the first 20 minutes free. A $6 pack of 500 minutes covers the session and leaves at least 380 minutes. A study of eight such groups, 960 minutes, fits the $12 pack of 2,000.
What a two-hour group becomes
Eight voices over two hours, ready to code and quote.
Many voices, one recording
A focus group has a moderator and six to ten participants who interrupt, agree and talk over each other. The moderator and participants are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters. Overlapping talk is where to check the audio before quoting.
Chapters along the discussion guide
Groups follow a guide: warm-up, the main topics, the stimulus, the wrap-up. The chapters tend to fall on those sections with timestamps, so comparing the same section across eight groups means opening the same chapter eight times.
Each quote with its minute
The brief picks out key quotes with the timestamp beside each one. That is the evidence a report needs, and it lets a colleague hear the tone of a line before it goes on a slide.
Ready for analysis
DOCX goes into the coding tool or the appendix, and JSON carries every line with its timestamp for anyone who works in a script. The chat answers questions across the transcript, such as what the group said about price.
Why focus groups are slow to transcribe
Two hours of crosstalk is the hardest audio to type by hand.
✗ Typing it up
A two-hour group with eight people takes many hours to type, and the study waits on it.
- Eight or more hours of typing per group
- A free tier that ends at the warm-up
- Quotes copied without timestamps
- Each group typed by a different person
- Weeks before analysis can start
- Audio sent somewhere unknown
✓ Reading it the same day
The group comes back as text with sections, quotes and timestamps while it is still fresh.
- Text in about 4 minutes
- 20 minutes free to judge the crosstalk
- Chapters by discussion section
- Participants named in the summary and key quotes
- Timestamped quotes for the report
- Participant audio kept out of training

FAQ
Two-hour focus groups, the common questions.
How long does a 2-hour focus group take to transcribe?
Four minutes or so, since each audio hour takes about 2. A full study of groups can be uploaded the evening each one runs.
What does one group cost, and a whole study?
One two-hour group uses 120 minutes of the $6 pack of 500. Eight groups are 960 minutes and fit the $12 pack of 2,000 with 1,040 left. Twenty groups, 2,400 minutes, fit the $24 pack of 5,000.
How large is a focus group recording?
Two hours from a dedicated recorder as WAV is often around 1.3 GB, and as an MP3 about 115 MB. A video recording of an online group is usually 1 to 2 GB. Each of those fits under the 2 GB that uploads before a pack.
We ran two groups back to back on one recording. Should I split it?
It works either way, since one file can be up to 10 hours. Splitting into one file per group makes comparison easier, because each group then has its own transcript and chapters.
The groups were in Tagalog with some English. Will that work?
Yes. 99 languages are detected automatically, and English and Tagalog switches within one recording are handled. Other language mixes are detected on the main language, so read the passages in the second language closely.
What can I export, and who hears the participants?
Exports: TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete each recording and its transcript once the analysis is done.
