Transcribe user research sessions the whole study, not one at a time.
If you have a study's worth of user research sessions to transcribe, send them together: share the Drive folder or upload the files, and each session comes back as its own transcript at about 2 minutes per hour of audio. Fifteen sessions of 75 minutes are 1,125 minutes, which one $12 pack covers.
Why studies get stuck at transcription
Recording twenty sessions is easy. Reading them is the work.
Send the folder, not twenty files
Paste the share link of the Google Drive folder that holds the study and every session in it is picked up. Session files from a local disk upload the usual way, each up to 10 hours or 5 GB.
Chapters that follow the script
A moderated session moves through warm-up, tasks and debrief. Chapters with timestamps mark those turns, so comparing how each participant handled task three means opening the same chapter fifteen times, not scrubbing fifteen videos.
Quotes per participant
Each session's brief carries its own key quotes with timestamps, and the people speaking are identified and named in the summary and quotes. Pull the strongest lines into the readout with a time code anyone can verify.
Search the study for one word
All sessions sit in a Library that is searchable across recordings. Search for "checkout" or "confusing" and see which participants said it and where, before you build a single affinity map.
Between fieldwork and the readout
A week of sessions, and a readout that cites three of them.
✗ The usual synthesis
Notes from the observer channel and a lot of rewatching.
- Observer notes that differ by observer
- Five sessions rewatched, ten skimmed
- Quotes copied without a time reference
- Per-minute quotes that add up across a study
- Files renamed and split to fit upload limits
- Tagging done from memory of the session
✓ A transcribed study
Every session as text before synthesis starts.
- Fifteen transcripts, one per participant
- Task-by-task chapters you can line up
- Quotes with timestamps for the readout
- A search across all sessions at once
- DOCX files for your tagging tool
- One $12 pack for 1,125 minutes
Sample output
Task three, as participant seven did it.
Illustrative only, written for this page and not taken from a real study. It shows the think-aloud passage a task chapter takes you straight to.

FAQ
Transcribing a research study, answered.
How long does a study of fifteen sessions take?
Each session processes at about 2 minutes per hour of audio, so a 75-minute session is ready in under three minutes. The sessions run side by side, and the uploads usually take longer than the transcription.
What does a 15-session study cost?
Fifteen sessions of 75 minutes come to 1,125 minutes, which the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes covers with 875 minutes left for the next study. A pilot of one session can start on the first 20 minutes free. A research team that runs studies every week may prefer Workspace at $19 a month, with a shared searchable Library.
Are there size limits on session recordings?
One file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB. Until a pack is on the account, uploads can be up to 2 GB; a larger file starts once there is a pack.
Our sessions were recorded as two halves. Do I merge them first?
No merging is needed. Upload both halves as they are, and each gets its own transcript and timeline; if a single recording is longer than 10 hours, that one goes up as two files.
We ran sessions in three countries. Is that a problem?
No. The language of each session is detected automatically from 99 languages, so a study with French, Japanese and English sessions goes up as one batch.
Which exports suit research tagging, and what about participant privacy?
DOCX is the common choice, and TXT, SRT, VTT and JSON come from the same run. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training; deleting a session removes its recording and transcript.
