Series · 180 min a session · about 6 min each

Transcribe a 3-hour seminar series so every session joins the same searchable record.

Each 3-hour seminar in a series is 180 minutes of audio and comes back as timestamped text in about 6 minutes; an audio file of one session is usually 100 to 200 MB, and a 1080p video of it is often between 1 and 2 GB. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire.

For organisers and participants

A run of long seminars, kept as one body of text instead of a shelf of video files.

Where the sessions come from

Seminar series are usually captured as a Zoom or Teams cloud recording, a lecture-hall capture system, a camera on a tripod, or a phone beside the chair. Download the session file and upload it, or paste a YouTube, Vimeo or Google Drive link if the series is posted there. A whole Drive folder of sessions can go in as one link.

Six minutes per session

Processing runs at about 2 minutes per hour of audio, so a 180-minute session is text in roughly 6 minutes. You can upload session four while session three is still processing; each one lands in your Library when it finishes.

A brief for every meeting of the series

Every session gets its own thesis and takeaways, timestamped chapters for the opening paper, the response and the open discussion, and a list of the names, numbers, dates and references mentioned. The chat answers a question across one session, with the timestamp to replay.

The series arithmetic

Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes. Twelve sessions reach 2,160 minutes and move to the $18 pack of 3,000 minutes. Credits never expire, so a series that pauses for a term keeps its balance.

Why a series loses its thread

By session five, nobody can find what was argued in session two.

✗ A folder of recordings

Each session sits as a long video, and the links between them live only in people's memory.

  • Three hours of video per session to search
  • References from earlier sessions lost
  • Latecomers to the series start blind
  • Questions from the floor never written down
  • Notes taken by whoever volunteered
  • Size limits that stop at the first hour

✓ A series on paper

Each session goes in as one file and returns with chapters, a brief and exports you can file next to the others.

  • About 6 minutes per 180-minute session
  • Talks and discussion as chapters
  • Presenters named in the summary
  • Names, dates and references listed
  • DOCX ready for a series reader
  • 920 minutes left after six sessions

00:04:20 Welcome back. Last week ended on the question of sources, so today's paper picks up exactly there.
00:52:10 The second argument depends on the 1998 survey, and I want to be careful about how far it stretches.
01:47:35 Let's open it up. Please wait for the microphone so the recording catches your question.
02:55:05 Next session is in two weeks, same room, and the reading list is already in the shared folder.

FAQ

Seminar series: the questions organisers ask.

How long does one 3-hour seminar take to transcribe?

About 6 minutes, since processing runs at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. Close the tab if you like; the transcript waits in your Library, and you can start the next session's upload straight away.

Should I upload the whole series as one file?

No. Upload each session separately so each gets its own brief, chapters and exports. One file can hold up to 10 hours or 5 GB, but a series reads far better as separate documents, and a recording over 10 hours has to be split anyway.

Which pack fits our series?

Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire. The opening minutes are a free preview.

The session video is 2.4 GB. What do I do?

Files up to 5 GB upload with or without a pack on the account. The upload box on this page takes files up to 500 MB, and a larger file continues on the main upload page. Exporting the audio track alone shrinks a 3-hour session to a couple of hundred megabytes.

Some sessions are in another language. Is that fine?

Yes. 99 languages are detected automatically, so a guest seminar in Spanish or German needs no setting. English terms inside another language are handled, and a session that switches language is detected on its main language.

Can presenters see their sessions are kept private?

Session recordings are transcribed on our own servers, and none of them is ever used for training. Delete any session file and its transcript from your Library when your series policy says to.
