Transcribe a 4-hour lecture the whole block, in one sitting.

A 4-hour lecture is 240 minutes of audio and is transcribed in about 8 minutes; a phone recording of it is usually 100 to 250 MB, while a lecture-capture video can reach 1 to 4 GB. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire.

An intensive block, as text

Four hours of teaching is too long to rewatch. It is not too long to read.

Four ways a long lecture arrives

A phone or recorder on the front desk, the export from the room's lecture-capture system, a link a department shares on Google Drive, or an unlisted YouTube upload. Files up to 500 MB go in the box here, and anything bigger moves to the upload page; links are fetched on our side, so a long video never crosses your connection.

Long blocks have shape

Intensive courses, evening extension classes and weekend modules often run four hours with a break in the middle. The chapters follow the lecturer's own sections, so the second half's case study is one click away and the break shows as a quiet gap rather than lost text.

What you get beside the transcript

A brief states what the lecture argued and its takeaways; the names, terms, figures and dates said aloud are listed with timestamps; and the questions the lecture answers become a revision list. Students who asked questions are identified and named in the summary when they introduce themselves.

The arithmetic of one block

Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire. Four weekly blocks are 960 minutes, comfortably inside the $18 pack of 3,000, and a 14-week term is 3,360 minutes on the $32 pack of 6,000.

The long-lecture problem

Most tools were built for a 50-minute class.

✗ Splitting and stitching

A four-hour block falls outside many free limits, so it gets cut up and reassembled by hand.

  • Caps of 30 to 60 minutes per file
  • Four uploads for one lecture
  • Each part's clock starting back at zero
  • A lecture-capture MP4 too heavy to send
  • Notes that fade after the second hour
  • No search across a whole term

✓ One lecture, one transcript

The file goes in whole and keeps the lecture's clock from first word to last.

  • Roughly 8 minutes of processing
  • A file up to 10 hours or 5 GB
  • Chapters at the lecturer's sections
  • A brief with the main argument
  • Key terms and dates, each timestamped
  • 260 pack minutes left for the next one

00:02:40 We have four hours, so the plan is theory until the break and two applied cases after it.
01:05:18 Hold on to this definition, because every model in the second half depends on it.
01:58:02 Fifteen minutes, then we start with the first case. Leave the slides open.
02:47:33 Here the data from the field study contradicts what the textbook predicts, and that is the interesting part.
03:54:10 For next week, read chapters six and seven and bring one question about the second case.

FAQ

4-hour lectures, the questions people ask.

How long does a 4-hour lecture take to transcribe?

About 8 minutes. Speed runs near 2 minutes per hour of audio, so 240 minutes is a short wait. You can leave the page while it runs; the result lands in your Library.

How much does one lecture cost, and a whole term?

One 4-hour lecture uses 240 of the 300 minutes in the $4 pack. A month of weekly blocks is 960 minutes and fits the $18 pack of 3,000 minutes with 2,040 left. A 14-week course is 3,360 minutes and fits the $32 pack of 6,000 minutes.

The lecture-capture video is over 2 GB. What happens?

Before the first pack, uploads are taken up to 5 GB. Between 2 and 5 GB the file starts once a pack is on the account. If the video is above 5 GB, export the audio track or a lower-resolution copy; a four-hour MP3 at 128 kbps is about 230 MB.

The recording stopped at the break. Do I need to join the parts?

No. Upload both files; each comes back with its own timestamps and chapters. If you prefer one document, join them first in any audio editor, since a single file can run up to 10 hours.

Which languages are supported?

99, detected automatically. A lecture delivered in Spanish, Swedish or Hebrew is detected on its own, and English technical terms inside it are handled. A lecture that switches language part-way is detected on its main language.

Is the lecture recording private?

Your lecture is transcribed on our own servers and is never used for training. Exports come back as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON, and the opening minutes are a free preview, so you can judge the result before buying.
