Transcribe doctoral defence recordings the opposition, question by question.
A 4-hour doctoral defence recorded in Sweden is transcribed in about 8 minutes, and at 240 minutes it fits the $6 pack of 500 with room for a second defence. English or Swedish is detected automatically, and the opponent's questions and the answers come back under chapters with timestamps.

The opposition in chapters
A Swedish disputation usually follows a set shape: the opponent places the thesis in its field, then works through it with questions, and the grading committee asks its own at the end. Chapters with timestamps follow those parts, so each line of questioning can be found again.
Questions worth keeping
An opponent's questions are often the best reading of the thesis anyone will give. The brief lists the questions the recording answers and the key quotes, a useful start for turning the thesis chapters into articles. Supervisors often ask for exactly this list when planning what to publish next.
Names and references
The respondent, the opponent and committee members are named in the summary, quotes and chapters when they are introduced. Authors, years and figures cited in the debate go into the list of names, numbers and dates.
From the hall or the stream
Many defences are public and some are streamed. Paste a YouTube or Vimeo link, or download the recording the department shares and drop it on the upload page. A phone on a front-row seat works too, as long as it is close enough to hear the opponent clearly.
What gets lost
Nobody remembers the third question an hour later.
✗ A defence remembered
The respondent is too busy answering to write anything down.
- Questions recalled in outline
- Suggestions for revision forgotten
- A stream recording left unopened
- Supervisors noting fragments
- References heard once
- Colleagues abroad who missed it
✓ A defence on record
The full opposition comes back as text you can quote and reread.
- A 4-hour defence in about 8 minutes
- Chapters for each part of the defence
- The opponent's questions gathered
- Respondent and opponent named in the summary
- English or Swedish detected
- One defence uses 240 of 500 minutes

FAQ
Doctoral defences in Sweden, the common questions.
How long does a 4-hour disputation take?
About 8 minutes, since it runs near 2 minutes per hour of audio. A 2-hour defence takes about 4, which means the text can be read at the party the same evening.
What does one defence cost?
A 4-hour defence is 240 minutes, inside the $6 pack of 500; the remaining 260 minutes cover a second defence of similar length or several supervision meetings. A department transcribing a year of defences can count the hours and choose the $12 pack of 2,000 or the $24 pack of 5,000.
Can I try it before paying?
Yes. A first-time visitor gets the first 20 minutes free, roughly the opponent's opening; a pack transcribes the rest from where the preview ended.
The stream recording is large. Will it upload?
The defence can go up as one file of up to 10 hours or 5 GB. Before your first pack, uploads are limited to 2 GB, and a file over that starts once a pack is on the account. A YouTube or Vimeo link avoids the upload entirely.
English or Swedish?
English and Swedish are both detected without a setting, among 99 languages. A defence held in English with a few exchanges in Swedish is detected on English, and the switches are handled.
Which files do I get, and who sees the disputation?
DOCX and TXT for your own notes, SRT and VTT if the department wants captions on the video, and JSON, with the brief and chapters. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
