Weekend Hindi programmes · 2 to 4 hours · speech only

Transcribe a Hindi radio show and keep every hour of talk searchable.

A Hindi radio show recorded in New Zealand, typically two to four hours of presenter talk, studio guests and callers, is transcribed at about 2 minutes per hour of audio, so a 3-hour programme is text in roughly 6 minutes. The opening minutes are a free preview, and two 3-hour shows, 360 minutes, fit the $18 pack of 3,000 minutes.

For the people behind a community broadcast

A weekend show fills three hours of airtime. Most of what is said there is never heard again.

Segments you can jump to

Chapters fall at the news round-up, the studio interview, the open line and the community notices, each with a timestamp. A producer pulling a quote for the station's page goes straight to the minute instead of scrubbing the logger file.

Callers and guests in the summary

The brief names the presenter, the studio guest and the callers who introduced themselves, together with the topics each raised. The transcript itself reads as continuous text, so the summary is where you see who carried each part.

Logger files are light

A studio logger at 128 kbps writes 16 KB a second, which is 57.6 MB an hour and about 173 MB for a 3-hour show. That goes straight into the box on this page; a longer master or a video of the studio continues on the upload page.

The year in airtime

Eleven 3-hour shows, 1,980 minutes, sit on the $18 pack of 3,000. Twenty-seven of them, 4,860 minutes, fit the $32 pack of 6,000 minutes, roughly half a year of weekly broadcasts.

Why the archive goes quiet

The show goes to air, the logger file goes to a drive, and nobody opens it again.

✗ Without a transcript

A volunteer presenter remembers that a guest explained the festival dates three weeks ago, but finding the moment means listening from the top. Sponsors ask for proof their message was read, and the answer is a shrug.

  • Hours of Hindi talk with no index
  • Tools that expect English only
  • Film songs confusing generic software
  • Sponsor reads impossible to locate
  • No text for the station's website
  • Uploads that stop at a few hundred MB

✓ With the show as text

The logger file goes in on Sunday evening and the full programme is readable before the presenters have packed up the studio.

  • About 6 minutes for a 3-hour show
  • Hindi with English phrases in one pass
  • Chapters at every segment change
  • Notices, dates and numbers listed
  • Search the archive by any word said
  • Captions for clips posted online

FAQ

Hindi radio recordings, answered.

How quickly does a 3-hour Hindi show come back?

In about 6 minutes, because the rate is close to 2 minutes of processing per hour of audio. A 2-hour show takes around 4, and a 4-hour marathon for a festival weekend around 8. Our public run of 9.31 hours in 1,033 seconds is at /proof/long-files.

Presenters switch between Hindi and English all the time. Does that break it?

No. The recording is detected on its main language, Hindi for these programmes, and English phrases inside the talk are handled in the same pass. You do not pick a language from a menu; 99 are detected automatically. If a segment is presented mostly in Punjabi or Urdu, expect that part to be read through the main language, so check it by ear.

Will the songs be typed out?

No. Music, jingles and sound effects are not transcribed; the speech is. A request show with long song blocks simply has gaps in the text where the music played, and the presenter's links between songs come through.

What does a full year of a weekly show cost?

Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes. Packs are one-time purchases, the credits never expire, and there is no subscription, so the station can buy a pack when the archive needs it.

Our master recording is a WAV of the whole morning. Will it go up?

An uncompressed stereo WAV at 1,411 kbps is about 635 MB an hour, so three hours are near 1.9 GB, inside the 5 GB one file can be. A 4-hour WAV, around 2.5 GB, starts once a pack is on the account. Any file may run to 10 hours or 5 GB, whichever comes first.

Which files do we get, and who can hear the recording?

Every recording is transcribed on our own servers and none is ever used for training, so callers' stories and phone-in questions stay with the station. You download TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON.
