Transcribe a long Insta360 INSV file what was said, without the 360 footage.
Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire. INSV footage often runs tens of gigabytes an hour, far past the 5 GB line, so upload the sound instead: two hours as an MP3 at 128 kbps is about 115 MB.
INSV, practically
A 360 camera records every direction at once. The transcript only needs one thing from it.
What INSV is
INSV is the file Insta360 360-degree cameras write for their video, often as a pair of files, one per lens. People use them for walking tours, property and site walkthroughs, vlogs and recorded events, which is how a single INSV session can run for hours.
Why the size rules it out
At the bitrates 360 cameras use, an hour of INSV commonly comes to tens of gigabytes. A file that large passes 5 GB within minutes of recording, so sending the video is not the route; sending the sound is.
Getting the sound out
The simplest route is usually to export the clip from Insta360's own desktop software as a regular MP4, then extract the audio. INSV is built like an MP4, so ffmpeg can often read it directly: ffmpeg -i clip.insv -vn -b:a 128k clip.mp3. If the sound is missing, try the other file of the pair. If the upload refuses the file, convert to MP3 or MP4 with ffmpeg or VLC, then use the upload page.
A tour you can search
The transcript returns a brief, chapters that follow each stop or room, the names, prices and dates said along the way, and a chat that finds the moment a detail came up, with timestamps back to the footage.
360 footage, unedited
Hours of spherical video are hard to scrub through, and almost impossible to upload anywhere.
✗ Too big to move
INSV files fill cards and drives quickly, and few tools open them.
- Uploads that fail at the first gigabyte
- Players that show a stretched double image
- A dual-file recording with sound in one half
- Watching back hours to find one remark
- Notes written after the walk, from memory
- Captions done by hand
✓ Only the voice goes up
The audio of a two-hour walk is about 115 MB as MP3, well inside the 500 MB box.
- Two hours in about 4 minutes
- Chapters by stop or room
- Prices and dates listed
- SRT and VTT for the edit
- A chat over the whole walk
- Minutes kept for the next shoot

FAQ
Long INSV recordings: questions
Can I upload the INSV file itself?
Rarely in practice, because of the size: tens of gigabytes an hour passes the 5 GB limit quickly. Upload the audio instead. If the upload refuses a file, convert to MP3 or MP4 with ffmpeg or VLC.
How big is the audio from a long recording?
As MP3 at 128 kbps, about 58 MB an hour, so two hours is about 115 MB and ten hours about 576 MB. Files up to 500 MB go in the box on this page; anything larger continues on the main upload page.
How long will two hours take?
About 4 minutes after the audio is up, at about 2 minutes per audio hour. Ten hours takes about 20 minutes.
What does a series of tours cost?
Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire. A single 2-hour tour is 120 minutes on the $4 pack.
The camera split the recording into several files.
Extract the audio from each part and join them in order with ffmpeg, keeping the total at 10 hours or less, or upload the parts separately. Wind noise is not transcribed; speech is.
Languages, exports and privacy?
99 languages, detected automatically. Exports are TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
