Transcribe long interviews and check every quote against its timestamp.
A long interview in the UK, whether for a newspaper feature, an oral history archive or an HR investigation, often runs past an hour, and WhipScribe returns a two-hour recording in about 4 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and the remaining 100 minutes come from a $6 pack of 500 minutes.
Three kinds of long interview
Different reasons for recording, one need: the exact words, quickly.
Journalism: find the quote, check the time
A feature interview can run two hours to produce three usable quotes. The key quotes are pulled out with the interviewee named, and each line carries a timestamp, so you can play the moment back before the quote goes to the subeditor.
Oral history: long, slow and worth keeping
Life-story interviews often run three hours or more, recorded in someone's front room with long pauses. A single file of up to 10 hours goes in whole, and the chapters follow the narrator through decades and places. upload page
HR and investigations: a record of what was said
Grievance and disciplinary interviews are recorded so that a note can be checked later. The transcript gives a timed record to work from; it is a working document, and your own process decides how it is used.
What a run of interviews costs
One 2-hour interview is 120 minutes from a $6 pack of 500, so four fit on a pack. A project of twelve 2-hour interviews is 1,440 minutes and fits the $12 pack of 2,000. Credits never expire between commissions.
What makes long interviews slow to write up
The interview took two hours; the write-up takes a week.
✗ Typing and scrubbing
Most people transcribe only the parts they remember, then lose a day hunting for the quote they half-recall.
- Eight hours of typing for a 2-hour interview
- Scrubbing audio to find one sentence
- Quotes recalled rather than checked
- Upload caps that cut off at the hour
- Long pauses that confuse simple tools
- Notes with no timestamps for verification
✓ The whole conversation, searchable
Every word comes back on one clock, with the strongest quotes pulled out.
- A 2-hour file in roughly 4 minutes
- Interviewee named in key quotes and chapters
- Timestamps for every passage
- Chat that finds where a topic came up

FAQ
Long interviews, the questions people ask first.
How long does a two-hour interview take to transcribe?
Roughly 4 minutes, since processing runs near 2 minutes per audio hour. A three-hour oral history session takes about 6.
What will a 3-hour interview cost?
180 minutes from a $6 pack of 500 minutes, minus the free 20 minutes if it is your first recording. The pack leaves 320 minutes or more for the next interviews, and the credit never expires.
My recorder split the interview into several files. What should I do?
Upload each file separately, or join them first in an audio editor if you want one transcript on one clock. A single file can run up to 10 hours and 5 GB, with 2 GB allowed before the first pack.
The interviewee has a strong regional accent. Will it cope?
Strong accents are part of ordinary speech, and the free 20 minutes let you judge the result on your own recording before you buy anything. Check names and places against the audio, as you would for any transcript you quote from.
Can I transcribe interviews in other languages?
Yes. 99 languages are detected without a setting, so an interview in Punjabi, Polish or Urdu is transcribed as spoken. If the speaker switches languages, the transcript follows the main one.
Is the recording kept private, and how do I export it?
Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Export DOCX for an archive deposit or a case file, TXT for drafting, JSON for a catalogue, and SRT or VTT if the interview is published as video.
