Transcribe a long MTS file from the AVCHD camcorder.
A long MTS or M2TS recording transcribes best as one joined audio file: a 5-hour event comes back in about 10 minutes and uses 300 minutes of a $6 pack. AVCHD video runs about 8 to 11 GB per hour and passes 5 GB in under an hour, so send the audio, up to 10 hours per file, with the first 20 minutes free.

Where the MTS files are
AVCHD camcorders store recordings inside a folder tree on the card, under PRIVATE, AVCHD, BDMV and STREAM, as numbered .MTS files. Software that copies them to a computer often renames them .M2TS; the contents are the same.
Why one event is many files
AVCHD video at 17 to 24 Mbps is about 8 to 11 GB per hour, and many camcorders split a long recording into several clips on the card. A five-hour event can be a dozen MTS files that only make sense together.
Join, then take the audio
Put the clips in order on one timeline in a video editor and export the audio as MP3. Five hours of speech then fits in a few hundred megabytes and keeps one clock from start to finish. If the upload refuses an MTS you try as it is, convert it to MP3 first.
The event, organised
Speeches, panels and toasts come back as chapters with timestamps, a brief with the main points, and key quotes with the speaker named, so you can find the moment without scrubbing through hours of video.
Before / after
AVCHD footage is heavy and broken into pieces.
✗ A card full of clips
A long camcorder recording rarely reaches a transcript in one piece.
- Clips named 00000 to 00011 with no order shown
- Each clip near the size limit on its own
- Twelve transcripts with twelve clocks
- Dolby audio some tools will not read
- Hours of upload for the video you do not need
- Speeches found only by watching again
✓ Joined audio, one document
Join the clips, export the audio, and upload one file per event.
- Joined audio of up to 10 hours or 5 GB
- The five hours transcribed in roughly 10 minutes
- One timeline across the whole event
- Each speech's speaker named in brief, quotes and chapters
- Five hours uses 300 minutes of a $6 pack
- SRT and VTT for captioning the edit

FAQ
Long MTS and M2TS questions.
How long does a 5-hour MTS recording take?
About 10 minutes once the joined audio is uploaded, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. Joining the clips and exporting audio usually takes longer than the transcription itself.
What does a 5-hour event cost?
Five hours is 300 minutes, which fits in the $6 pack (500 minutes) with 200 minutes left. A 10-hour recording is 600 minutes on the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. Credits never expire.
Can I upload the MTS clips directly?
A short clip under 5 GB can be tried as it is, and anything above 2 GB starts once a pack is on the account. If the upload refuses the file, convert it to MP3 first. For a long event, the joined audio export is quicker and keeps one timeline.
What if the event ran over 10 hours?
Export the audio in two parts, split at an interval, and upload both. Each part has its own clock, so keep a note of where the second part begins.
Can the event be in another language?
Yes. 99 languages are identified automatically, including Spanish, Japanese, Hebrew and Tagalog, and an English and Tagalog mix in one event is handled as spoken.
Which formats can I download, and is the footage private?
The event exports as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, and its audio is transcribed on our own servers and never used for training, and the event footage itself never needs to leave your computer.
