Backed up is not written down

The phone filmed all three hours. The backup kept them. Now you want the words.

Getting the original back

Open the video in Amazon Photos on the web or in the app and look for the download option, usually in the item's menu. Several videos at once may come down as a ZIP. Amazon Photos links are not fetched by WhipScribe, so the downloaded file is what you upload.

Phone video is big

Phones record high-quality video, and an hour can take several gigabytes, more at 4K. A 3-hour video may pass 5 GB. If it does, extract the audio first; three hours as a 128 kbps MP3 is about 173 MB and goes straight into the box above. Larger files continue on the upload page.

MOV or MP4

iPhones often save video as MOV and Android phones as MP4. Both are video files WhipScribe takes. If your browser's file picker hides a MOV, change the picker to show all files, or use the main upload page.

What comes back from a long talk

A brief with the main point and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, the names, places and dates said aloud, and the questions the talk answers. For a family story or a recorded lecture, that list of names and dates is often the part people want most.

Why phone recordings stay unwatched

Three hours on a backup. Nobody will sit through them again.

✗ Kept as video

Safe in the cloud, impossible to skim.

  • Several gigabytes per hour of footage
  • Scrolling a timeline to find one story
  • No way to search what was said
  • Upload tools that stop at minutes, not hours
  • Names and dates you half remember
  • Nothing to print for the people who were not there

✓ Kept as text too

Download, upload, and the recording becomes something to read.

  • 180 minutes back in about 6 minutes
  • Audio-only copies when the video is huge
  • Chapters that jump to each story
  • Names, places and dates listed
  • DOCX to print and share
  • Three hours inside the $4 pack

FAQ

Amazon Photos videos, answered.

Can I share an Amazon Photos link instead?

No. An Amazon Photos share is not among the link types we fetch (YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Kick, Google Drive, podcast feeds). Download the video from Amazon Photos and upload the file.

How long does a 3-hour video take?

Around 6 minutes after upload, at about 2 minutes per hour of audio. Uploading a multi-gigabyte phone video usually takes longer than the transcription.

What will it cost?

Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire. Every recording starts with a free preview of its opening minutes; a longer video is previewed, and a pack transcribes the rest from where the preview ended.

The video is 7 GB. What do I do?

One file can be up to 5 GB or 10 hours, before or after your first pack. Extract the audio, which turns hours of phone video into a few hundred megabytes, and upload that.

The recording mixes two languages. Is that a problem?

99 languages are detected automatically, and a recording that switches language is detected on its main one. Music or background noise is not transcribed; the speech is.

Are family videos kept private?

Videos you upload are transcribed on our own servers and never used for training. Delete the video and transcript from your Library whenever you want; your Amazon Photos backup stays as it was.
