Transcribe long podcasts recorded on an Audio-Technica AT2020USB-X the file your app saved, start to finish.
An AT2020USB-X has no memory of its own, so a long podcast lives in whatever app recorded it, and once you save that as one file and upload it, a 2.5-hour episode comes back as text in about 5 minutes. A first visit gets 20 minutes free, and the 150 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes with 350 to spare.
From the USB mic to the page
A USB microphone hands its sound to the computer. The recording is whatever your software wrote down.
Find the file, not the mic
Plug the AT2020USB-X in and it appears as an input in Audacity, GarageBand, a DAW, or a call app that records locally. Each of those keeps the take in its own place: a project to export from, or a finished file in a recordings folder. Save or export the episode as one file, then drop it on upload page.
Mono speech, sensible size
One microphone captures one channel of speech. Saved as a 16-bit, 48 kHz mono WAV, an hour takes about 346 MB, so a 2.5-hour episode is roughly 865 MB and uploads before any pack. Saving the same take as 24-bit stereo makes it about 2.6 GB, three times the bytes for the same voice.
Long sessions it is bought for
Solo shows recorded in one sitting, a host talking to a remote guest whose voice comes through the call, narrated lessons and read-aloud drafts all run long on a desk mic. Only the speech is transcribed, so an intro sting or background music bed stays out of the text.
What a long episode turns into
You get a brief with the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, and every name, number and date that was said. The chat over the transcript finds the moment a topic came up, which is handy when writing show notes or picking a clip for social posts.
Desk-mic podcasts elsewhere
The recording is fine. The trouble starts when a long take meets a small upload box.
✗ Where it goes wrong
A clean voice, made awkward by the file around it.

- An app project uploaded instead of an export
- Stereo WAVs twice as heavy as needed

- Show notes typed while replaying audio
- Timestamps restarting on each part
✓ One export, one transcript
The whole episode as a document you can search.
- WAV, MP3 or M4A, whichever the app writes
- About 5 minutes for 2.5 hours
- Up to 10 hours in one upload
- Chapters ready for show notes
- Quotes with the host named
- SRT and VTT for a video cut

FAQ
AT2020USB-X recordings, the common questions.
How long does a 2.5-hour AT2020USB-X episode take?
Close to 5 minutes, since processing takes about 2 minutes for each hour of sound. The public proof page lists a 9.31-hour file finished in 1,033 seconds, so even a very long session comes back the same afternoon.
What will a 150-minute episode cost me?
Your first 20 minutes are free on a first visit: a recording that short transcribes in full, and a longer one shows a preview. The 150 minutes of a 2.5-hour episode fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Four such episodes a month are 600 minutes, which suits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes better.
Which file from my recording app do I upload?
The finished episode your recording app exported, usually a WAV or an MP3. Check the export settings in the app: mono and 16-bit keep the file small without hurting the speech. A project or session file from the app itself will not open here.
Does the mic's headphone mix end up in the transcript?
Only what the app recorded matters. If the app captured just the microphone, a remote guest heard in your headphones is missing from the file, and so from the text. Record the call too, or ask the call app for a local recording, and mix them before uploading.
Is there a plugin for the mic or my app?
No. WhipScribe has no integration with Audio-Technica or with recording software, and nothing installs on your computer. You save a file and upload it on this page, or paste a link if the episode is already on YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive or a podcast feed.
Which formats come back, and who hears the episode?
TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, all from the single run. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and 99 languages are detected without any setting.
