Phone-system recordings · bridges and call batches · about 2 min per audio hour

Transcribe Avaya call recordings from the phone system's recorder.

Recorded calls exported from an Avaya phone system transcribe at about 2 minutes per hour of audio, so a 4.5-hour conference bridge comes back in about 9 minutes and a batch of 120 five-minute calls in about 20. The first 20 minutes are free; the bridge call fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes, and the 600-minute batch takes the $12 pack.

From the Avaya recorder to text

The phone system kept the calls. Turning them into text is a separate step.

Exporting from the recorder

How recordings are stored depends on the Avaya product and the recording solution your organisation runs, which differ widely between installations. Usually an administrator or a supervisor with access exports them from the recorder's search. Ask for a common audio format such as WAV or MP3; if a file uses one the upload refuses, convert it first.

When the format is unusual

Some recorders keep audio in their own container or a telephony codec. A desktop converter can save it as MP3; at 32 kbps mono an hour is 14.4 MB, so a 4.5-hour bridge call becomes about 65 MB. GSM audio, common on phone systems, uploads as it is.

Bridges and batches, priced

A 4.5-hour bridge call is 270 minutes, inside the $6 pack of 500. A 9-hour incident bridge is 540 minutes and moves to the $12 pack of 2,000. A batch of 120 calls of 5 minutes, 600 minutes, also goes on the $12 pack, with room for more.

What comes back from a long bridge

A brief of the call with the decisions taken, chapters with timestamps each time the topic moved, and the names, ticket numbers and times spoken. Participants are identified and named in the summary and key quotes, so the follow-up note can say which person took each action.

Recordings on the phone system

The recorder captures everything. Nobody has hours to replay it.

✗ Stored on the recorder

The call exists, but only as audio behind a search screen.

  • Bridge calls replayed to find one decision
  • Recorder formats few tools accept
  • Batches exported, then never opened
  • The OpenAI Whisper API's 25 MB upload ceiling
  • Action items rebuilt from memory
  • Ticket numbers re-typed by hand

✓ Exported and transcribed

Bridges and call batches return as text with timestamps.

  • About 9 minutes for a 4.5-hour bridge
  • 65 MB of MP3 for 4.5 hours at 32 kbps
  • Decisions listed in the brief
  • Ticket numbers and times pulled out
  • Chapters at each change of topic
  • Five export formats per call

00:00:30 Let's start with status. The network team has been on the bridge since two this morning.
01:12:45 We rolled back the change on the core switch, and traffic is recovering in the east region.
02:58:10 Before anyone drops off, I need an owner for the root-cause write-up and a date for it.
04:21:35 I'll take the write-up and circulate a draft by Wednesday. Closing the bridge now.

FAQ

Avaya recordings, answered.

Does WhipScribe integrate with Avaya?

No. There is no Avaya integration, and nothing connects to your phone system or joins a call. Export the recordings, then upload them or paste a Google Drive folder link; transcription happens on those files.

How long does a 4.5-hour bridge take?

About 9 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. A batch of 600 minutes of calls takes around 20 minutes in all.

What does it cost?

A first visit starts with 20 free minutes. The 270-minute bridge fits the $6 pack, and 600 minutes of calls take the $12 pack. Credits are one-time in USD and never expire.

Recording consent: whose job is it?

The organisation that records. Each recorded call needs the consent the law where you and the other party are requires; WhipScribe only transcribes recordings already exported.

Our bridge ran longer than 10 hours.

Split the recording into two files of up to 10 hours each. Each file can be up to 5 GB; before a first pack, uploads go up to 2 GB, and a larger file starts once a pack is on the account.

Where is the audio processed?

Avaya recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Remove files and transcripts whenever your retention policy calls for it.
