Transcribe a Blackboard Learn lecture from the course file.
A 100-minute lecture video downloaded from a Blackboard Learn course is transcribed in about 3.5 minutes, and five of them fit the 500 minutes of the $6 pack exactly. Download the file the lecturer attached to the course, upload it here, and the first 20 minutes are free. WhipScribe is not a Blackboard building block or tool; it transcribes the downloaded file.
From the course page
A lecture attached to a course is already a file. That is the easiest case.
Downloading from the course
When a lecturer attaches a video file to Learn course content, students can usually download it like any other attachment, and the format is whatever the lecturer uploaded, often an MP4. If the video is embedded from another service instead, download it from that service or paste its link if it is YouTube or Vimeo. Audio-only lecture files, such as an MP3 or M4A, upload the same way and are smaller.
What the lecturer allows
Students transcribe the Learn lectures the lecturer allows them to download. A lecturer who wants the transcript in the course can transcribe their own file and attach the DOCX next to the video.
The 100-minute lecture
One hundred minutes is a common length for a double lecture, and it uses 100 of the 500 minutes in a $6 pack, leaving 400. Five such lectures use the pack exactly. A course with thirteen of them, 1,300 minutes, fits the $12 pack of 2,000. A one-off 100-minute lecture on a first visit is previewed for 20 minutes, and the $6 pack transcribes the other 80.
Revision in one place
Upload on upload page and each lecture comes back with a brief, chapters, the names and dates said, and a chat. Ask which lecture defined a term and the chat answers with the passage and its timestamp.
What a course attachment leaves you with
The file sits in week six. Its content sits nowhere you can search.
✗ A video attachment
Downloadable, playable and still slow to revise from.
- Notes that cover only the first hour
- No way to search thirteen lectures at once
- Whisper API files limited to 25 MB
- Cutting a double lecture in two
- Two sets of timestamps to reconcile
- Spoken deadlines nowhere in writing
✓ A transcript beside it
Each lecture becomes text you can search, quote and print.
- The double lecture uploaded whole
- A new chapter as each topic begins
- Terms and deadlines listed
- The questions the lecture covers
- A chat across the lecture
- DOCX to print, SRT to caption

FAQ
Blackboard Learn lectures, answered.
How long does a 100-minute Learn lecture take?
About 3.5 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. A 50-minute lecture is ready in under 2.
How many 100-minute lectures does a pack cover?
Five on the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Thirteen of them, 1,300 minutes, fit the $12 pack of 2,000. On a first visit, the first 20 minutes are free and a pack transcribes the rest from where the preview ended. Credits never expire.
Can I paste the Blackboard link?
No. Learn course links are not among the links WhipScribe opens. Download the file, or paste a YouTube, Vimeo or Google Drive link when the lecture lives there. A lecture embedded from Kaltura, Panopto or another service is downloaded from that service first.
What file sizes can Learn lectures be?
A Learn lecture file can be 10 hours or 5 GB at most. Without a pack the cap is 2 GB, and a larger lecture file starts once a pack is on the account. If the upload refuses the file, convert it to MP3 first.
Does it work for a lecture in Zulu or Afrikaans?
Yes. 99 languages are detected automatically, Zulu and Afrikaans among them. A lecture that switches language is detected on its main one, with the switches handled. Lectures that quote Latin or legal terms are transcribed as said, so check spellings once.
Exports and privacy?
Learn lectures export as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. The lecturer and any students who speak are named in each lecture's summary, key quotes and chapters. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
