Transcribe long programmes from a community radio station every guest and caller, on the page.
A long programme from a community radio station, such as a 3-hour talk show with guests and phone-ins, is transcribed at about 2 minutes per audio hour, so it is text in roughly 6 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and a 3-hour show every week for a quarter, 2,340 minutes, fits the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes.
Getting the show out of the station
Volunteers make the programmes. Nobody has time to write them up afterwards.
Logger, playout or podcast feed
Many stations keep a logger recording of everything on air, and most playout and studio software can export a programme as a file; the menu names vary, so ask whoever looks after the studio. If the show is published as a podcast, paste the RSS feed or episode link instead of downloading anything. A long logger file can also be trimmed to the programme's start and end before upload, which saves minutes.
Talk transcribed, music left out
Songs, jingles and adverts are not transcribed. The presenter's links, guests and callers are, and the chapters mark where each conversation starts, so a mixed music-and-talk show reads as just the talk.
A season, costed
Thirteen weekly 3-hour shows make 39 hours, or 2,340 minutes, which is more than the $12 pack holds, so the $24 pack of 5,000 covers it with 2,660 left. One 2-hour show is 120 minutes of the $6 pack.
Callers on the phone line
Phone-in audio is thinner than the studio microphones, so callers' words come through a little less cleanly. Speakers who give their name on air are named in the summary and chapters.
Why radio archives go quiet
Years of local voices are on the logger. None of it can be searched.
✗ Hours on the logger
The programme goes out once, then lives as an untitled file on a station drive.
- Guests asking for a copy of what they said
- Show notes written in a hurry, or not at all
- Local history buried in old broadcasts
- No captions for the studio video
- Volunteers replaying shows to find a quote
- Funders asking what the station covered
✓ A searchable show archive
Each programme becomes text with chapters, quotes and the facts mentioned.
- About 6 minutes for a 3-hour show
- First 20 minutes free
- A chapter for each guest and topic
- Dates, events and numbers listed
- Guests named in the summary and quotes
- TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON

FAQ
Community radio programmes, questions answered.
How long does a 3-hour show take?
Around 6 minutes, at about 2 minutes per hour of audio. A 1-hour programme takes about 2. The public proof page shows 9.31 hours of audio finished in 1,033 seconds.
Can I paste our podcast feed?
Yes. RSS feeds and podcast episode links are fetched directly, so there is nothing to download first.
What does a year of shows cost?
A weekly 2-hour show for a year is 6,240 minutes, more than one pack, so it takes the $24 pack of 5,000 plus the $12 pack of 2,000. A quarter of weekly 3-hour shows fits the $24 pack alone.
We broadcast in two languages. Is that a problem?
99 languages are detected automatically. A show that switches language is detected on its main language, so check the passages in the other one.
How long can one recording be?
Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. Before a first pack, uploads up to 2 GB start immediately. A 24-hour logger file goes in as three files. Trim the logger to each programme and you pay only for the shows you want.
Where is the audio processed?
Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Delete the file and transcript once the show notes are posted, if you prefer not to keep them here.
