Clean audio, readable text

The app cleaned up the room; the transcript puts the talk on the page.

Exporting from Dolby On

Dolby On keeps recordings in its own library and offers a share or export step for each one. Audio and video are exported in different formats, and the options vary by phone, so check the export settings in your version. Save the export to your phone or Google Drive, then upload it on upload page.

Audio or video

If you filmed the talk, the video file will be much larger than an audio export of the same length. For transcription the speech is all that matters, so an audio export is the lighter upload. Either way, up to 2 GB goes up before a pack.

Three talks per $6

A 2.5-hour talk is 150 minutes. Three of them use 450 of the 500 minutes in the $6 pack. The proof page shows a 2.48-hour file processed in 200 seconds, close to this length.

From the talk to a write-up

You get a brief with the talk's thesis and takeaways, chapters at each section, and the questions from the floor with their answers. DOCX export gives you a draft write-up to edit. For a society newsletter or a blog post, start from the brief and pull two or three quotes; the timestamps let the speaker check them against the recording before you publish.

Talk recordings elsewhere

A well-recorded talk still has to be listened to before anyone can quote it.

00:02:30 Thank you for coming out on a wet evening. I will talk for about ninety minutes.
00:48:55 The letters show that the plan changed twice before anyone wrote it down.
01:46:10 Were the letters ever published, or did you read the originals?
02:22:40 I read the originals in the county archive, and copies are going online next year.

FAQ

Dolby On recordings, the common questions.

How long does a 2.5-hour Dolby On recording take?

About 5 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. A 2.48-hour file on the proof page took 200 seconds.

What does a 2.5-hour talk cost?

On a first visit the first 20 minutes are free; a longer talk is previewed and a pack from $6 completes it from where the preview stopped. The talk uses 150 of the 500 minutes on the $6 pack.

Is a video recording too large?

Video is larger per hour than audio, so check the size before uploading. Files up to 2 GB upload before a pack, and up to 5 GB or 10 hours once one is on the account.

Will music before the talk show up?

Music, sound effects and applause are not transcribed; the speech is. A musical interval in a rehearsal recording simply leaves a gap in the text.

Can I record a talk or a conversation?

Recording other people needs the consent the law where you are requires, so ask the speaker or organiser first. The talk can be in any of 99 languages, recognised without a setting.

Which files do I get, and is the talk kept private?

The talk downloads in TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and the talk stays until you delete it.
