Transcribe the video behind an Edpuzzle lesson from the file you uploaded.
To transcribe an Edpuzzle lesson, start from the original video you uploaded, usually an MP4 still on your computer or in Drive, or paste the YouTube link if the lesson is built on a YouTube video; a 75-minute lesson is ready in under 3 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and 75 minutes is a small part of the $6 pack of 500 minutes. WhipScribe has no Edpuzzle integration and does not read lessons inside it.
From Edpuzzle lesson to text
The questions live in Edpuzzle. The words of the video can live in a transcript.
Go back to the original file
Edpuzzle wraps a video in questions and notes, but the lesson itself started as a file you recorded or a video you found. For a lesson you uploaded, the cleanest source is the original recording, usually an MP4 in your downloads, your camera roll or a Drive folder. Upload that file rather than trying to capture the lesson from the player.
Lessons built on YouTube
Many Edpuzzle lessons are built on a YouTube video. Copy the YouTube address from the lesson's source, paste it in the box, and the video is fetched directly, so there is nothing to download. Vimeo and Google Drive links work the same way.
What a unit of lesson videos costs
Twenty-five lesson videos of 20 minutes each total 500 minutes, exactly the size of the $6 pack. A heavier unit with a dozen 75-minute recordings, 900 minutes, fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. Minutes you do not use carry over with no end date.
Text beside the questions
Drop the file on upload page and the narration comes back time-coded, so you can write questions that quote the video exactly or give students a transcript for revision. Embedded questions and quiz answers are not part of the video's audio, so they are not in the transcript. Teachers who flip a classroom can hand out the transcript as reading for the night before.
Where Edpuzzle videos stall
The lesson works well in class. A written version takes a second pass you rarely have time for.
✗ Working without a transcript
Writing questions means watching the video yet again.
- Pausing every minute to copy a sentence for a question
- Students asking for notes the video never had
- A 25 MB Whisper API limit, under a 75-minute lesson file
- Clipping the video to fit short-file tools
- No record of the exact wording of a definition
- Captions only for some videos
✓ Working from the words
The lesson's words, timed, ready to quote and share.
- One upload or link per lesson
- Chapters for each concept
- Every name, number and date, pulled together
- The questions the video answers
- A chat to find where a term is defined
- SRT or VTT for captions

FAQ
Edpuzzle lesson videos, answered.
How long does a 75-minute lesson video take?
Under 3 minutes, at about 2 minutes per hour of audio. A 20-minute video is ready in under a minute. A YouTube link adds a short fetch before the clock starts.
Can I transcribe the lesson straight from Edpuzzle?
No. WhipScribe cannot open lessons inside Edpuzzle. Use the original video file you uploaded, or the YouTube link the lesson was built from.
What do a unit's lesson videos cost?
Twenty-five 20-minute videos are 500 minutes and fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes. A dozen 75-minute recordings, 900 minutes, need the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free on a first visit, and a pack transcribes the rest from where the free preview ended.
Are the embedded questions transcribed?
No. Questions, notes and quiz answers added in Edpuzzle sit on top of the video, not in its audio. Only the spoken lesson comes back.
I teach in French. Will that work?
Yes. All 99 supported languages are detected automatically. A lesson that moves between French and English is detected on its main language, and the switches are handled.
What exports come back, and is the video private?
The lesson video's transcript leaves as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. The teacher is named in the summary, key quotes and chapters. Lesson videos are transcribed on our own servers and never used for training.
