Transcribe long streams and podcasts recorded on an Elgato Wave:3 from the VOD link or the local file.
A Wave:3 is a USB microphone, so the recording is whatever your software saved or your stream platform kept: upload the file, or paste the Twitch, Kick or YouTube link, and a 6-hour stream comes back as text in about 12 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and the 360 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes with 140 left.
Mic to transcript
The microphone does not keep the file. Your software or your platform does.
Two ways the recording exists
If you streamed, the platform may keep the broadcast: a Twitch or Kick VOD, or a YouTube live replay, can be pasted here as a link with no download. If you recorded locally in OBS, Audacity or another program, the file is wherever that program saves recordings; check its output settings for the folder and format.
Long streams and the 6-hour line
A stream VOD longer than 6 hours starts once a pack is on the account. Under that, a first visit transcribes the first 20 minutes free and a pack transcribes the rest from where the preview ended. A local file can run to 10 hours or 5 GB, and a longer session goes up as two files.
What the mic picks up
Game audio, music and alerts are not transcribed; your voice is. If the recording mixes desktop sound loudly under speech, the words can get harder to separate, so a separate microphone track in OBS, if you set one up, makes the cleanest upload.
What a stream turns into
The text arrives with a brief, chapters with timestamps, and the names, numbers and dates said, which is a quick way to find clip moments by hand or to write the VOD description. SRT and VTT files go straight back to YouTube as captions.
Long stream recordings elsewhere
A six-hour broadcast is too long and too large for most transcription tools.
✗ Where long streams get stuck
Hours of talk, and nothing written down.
- The Whisper API turning away files over 25 MB
- Downloading a VOD just to re-upload it
- Auto-captions that drift on long VODs
- Splitting a stream into hourly parts
- Scrubbing the timeline for one moment
- VOD descriptions typed from memory after the stream
✓ From link or file
One stream, one transcript, one set of timestamps.
- Twitch, Kick and YouTube links pasted
- 6 hours back in about 12 minutes
- Chapters across the whole broadcast
- Moments findable by timestamp
- Music and game sound left out
- Caption files for the YouTube upload

FAQ
Elgato Wave:3 recordings, the common questions.
How long does a 6-hour stream take?
Around 12 minutes, because every audio hour takes about 2. A 3-hour podcast recorded on the same mic takes around 6.
What does a run of long streams cost?
On your first visit, 20 minutes are free. A single 6-hour stream uses 360 minutes of the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Weekly 6-hour streams for five weeks make 1,800 minutes, which fits the $12 pack, and thirteen of them make 4,680 minutes on the $24 pack of 5,000.
Can I paste my Twitch or Kick VOD instead of uploading?
Yes. Twitch and Kick VODs, YouTube videos and live replays all go in as links. Any VOD past 6 hours begins once a pack is on the account. Facebook, TikTok and Instagram replays are downloaded first, then uploaded.
My local recording is several gigabytes. Will it fit?
Up to 5 GB or 10 hours per file, and up to 2 GB before your first pack. A 6-hour audio-only MP3 at 128 kbps is about 346 MB; a 1080p video file is far larger, and if the upload refuses the file, convert it to MP3 first.
I stream in Korean or Japanese. Does that work?
Yes. Korean, Japanese and 97 other languages are detected automatically, with nothing to choose. A stream that switches between two languages is detected on its main one.
What files do I get, and is my audio private?
Stream downloads come as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and a pasted VOD is read only to make your text. Nothing connects to your Elgato software or your stream account; you send the file or link yourself.
