Transcribe a long Google Recorder file with chapters and a brief.
Google Recorder on a Pixel phone shares a recording's audio as an M4A file, and WhipScribe turns a five-hour recording into text in about 10 minutes. Upload the M4A or paste a Google Drive link to it; the first 20 minutes are free and a $6 pack of 500 minutes covers the rest.
Out of Recorder
Share the audio, not the screen of text.
Share as audio
Open the recording, tap Share and choose the audio file option. Save it to the phone's files, or send it to a computer, then pick it in the upload box. The M4A is what you upload; nothing has to be converted first.
Paste a Drive link
Sharing the audio to Google Drive works too. Set the file so anyone with the link can view, copy the link, and paste it into the box above. The audio is fetched from Drive directly, which spares a phone a long upload on mobile data.
Ten minutes for five hours
Processing takes about 2 minutes per audio hour, so a five-hour workshop is back in around 10 minutes. A full ten-hour day, the most one file can hold, takes about 20.
More than words on a screen
The phone can show text as you record; this adds what a long recording needs afterwards. A brief with the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, the figures and dates that came up, and a chat you can ask about the whole day.
Why people move long Recorder files
Five hours of audio needs structure, not only text.
✗ Staying on the phone
A long recording read on a small screen is a scroll, not a document. Recorder is built for capturing, and a recording of several hours deserves more than reading it line by line on a phone screen.
- One long block of text to scroll through
- No chapters to jump to a topic
- Copying text out a page at a time
- Sharing a giant file through chat apps
- No subtitle file for a video upload
- A cloud plan just to keep recordings

The M4A or a Drive link, then a document built for the length.
- Upload or paste a Drive share link
- Roughly 2 minutes for every recorded hour
- Chapters with timestamps
- Each voice named where the summary and key quotes cite it
- DOCX, SRT, VTT, TXT and JSON
- Pack minutes that never run out

FAQ
Google Recorder files, answered.
How long does a long Recorder file take to transcribe?
Expect around 2 minutes for each hour. A five-hour recording usually takes about 10 minutes, a two-hour one about 4.
What does a five-hour recording cost?
Five hours is 300 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free for a first-time visitor, and the $6 pack of 500 minutes transcribes the rest, leaving 200 minutes on the account. Credits never expire, so the remainder waits for your next recording.
How big is a Recorder M4A, and will it upload?
Voice in M4A runs to tens of megabytes per hour, so even ten hours sits well under the 2 GB that uploads before a pack. The ceiling per file is 10 hours or 5 GB.
Do I need to split the recording?
Not unless it is over 10 hours. In that case, trim it into two parts on the phone or in an audio editor and upload each one.
Does it work in languages besides English?
Yes. 99 languages are detected automatically from the audio, among them Japanese, Swedish, Zulu and Portuguese. There is no language menu to set.
Which exports do I get, and is the audio private?
You can take the text away as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
