Transcribe a long GoPro recording for what was said, not what was filmed.
A GoPro writes MP4 video to its microSD card, in the DCIM folder, and splits a long take into chapter files of roughly 4 GB each; upload those chapters, or an audio export of the whole event, and the speech comes back as text. A two-and-a-half-hour event takes about 5 minutes, the first 20 minutes are free, and a $6 pack of 500 minutes covers the remaining 130.
From the card to text
Hours of action video, read for the parts where someone talks.
Which files to take
Copy the MP4 files out of the DCIM folder on the microSD card. They are named in sequence, so the second chapter of a take shares its number with the first. Leave the small LRV and THM files behind; they are previews and thumbnails. If you moved the footage with the GoPro Quik app, it sits in the phone's gallery.
Chapters and the 2 GB line
A chapter near 4 GB is over the 2 GB that uploads before a pack, so it starts once a pack is on the account, and each chapter becomes its own transcript. For one timeline across a long take, join the chapters in an editor and export the audio alone as MP3, which is about 58 MB an hour at 128 kbps.
Voices kept, wind left out
Wind, engines, crowd noise and music are not transcribed; the voices are. A helmet or chest mount sits close to the wearer's mouth and usually picks up their commentary clearly, while people a few metres away come through fainter.
What you can do with the text
A tour, a race briefing or a filmed talk returns with a brief of what was said, chapters with timestamps that point back to the footage, and the names, numbers and dates spoken aloud. That makes it quick to find the clip you want before you open the editor.
Why GoPro footage is hard to transcribe
Big chapter files, outdoor noise and tools built for short audio.
✗ What gets in the way
Action-camera footage is large, chaptered and noisy, which defeats tools that expect one small audio file.
- 4 GB chapters rejected by a 25 MB limit
- Scrubbing hours of footage for one remark
- A take split across several numbered files
- Uploading the LRV preview by mistake
- Monthly plans for a single trip
- Captions typed by hand against the video
✓ The speech, found fast
Send each chapter, or one audio export, and every spoken line comes back with a timestamp you can jump to.
- Each chapter up to 5 GB once a pack is on
- Two and a half hours in about 5 minutes
- Audio-only exports in megabytes
- $6 buys 500 minutes that never lapse
- Chapters that point back into the footage
- SRT and VTT for captioning the edit

FAQ
GoPro footage, the common questions.
How long does GoPro footage take?
About 2 minutes of processing per hour of audio, whatever the video resolution, because only the sound is read. A two-and-a-half-hour event is ready in about 5 minutes.
What does a season of filmed events cost?
Two and a half hours is 150 minutes; the first 20 are free for a first-time visitor and a $6 pack of 500 covers the other 130. Twelve hours of footage across a season is 720 minutes, which needs the $12 pack of 2,000 and leaves 1,280 over.
My chapter is about 4 GB. Will it upload?
Yes, once a pack is on the account: files above 2 GB start then, up to 5 GB each. Before a pack, export the audio and upload that instead; hours of speech fit in a few hundred megabytes.
Do the chapters need joining?
Not for the transcript to work: each chapter can go in as its own file. Join them only if you want a single transcript and timeline for the whole take, and keep the joined file to 10 hours or less.
Which languages work?
99 languages, detected from the audio automatically. A guide who switches language mid-tour is transcribed on the main language of the recording, and English with Tagalog in one file is handled.
What do I download, and who sees the footage?
Text as TXT and DOCX, captions as SRT and VTT, and structured JSON, all from one run. Each upload is transcribed on our own servers, recordings are never used for training, and a deleted file takes its transcript with it.
