Transcribe recordings made in a gurdwara katha and meetings, in writing.
A katha recorded in a gurdwara, typically 60 to 90 minutes, is transcribed at about 2 minutes per audio hour, so a 90-minute katha is text in roughly 3 minutes. The opening minutes are a free preview, and a year of weekly 90-minute katha, 4,680 minutes, fits the $32 pack of 6,000 minutes.
How the sangat's recordings are made
Most gurdwaras already record. The sevadar at the sound desk has years of katha on a laptop and a stream on YouTube.
From the desk, a phone or the stream
Many diwan halls feed the stage microphones into a mixer, and a recorder or laptop on the desk takes that feed: the cleanest source. Otherwise a phone near the speaker works. If the programme was streamed to YouTube, paste the link, including a live replay, and nothing needs downloading.
Kirtan and katha come back differently
Kirtan is sung with harmonium and tabla and behaves like music, which is not transcribed. The spoken katha, the ardas spoken aloud, announcements and the committee's business come back. If you only need the katha, cutting the file to that section first keeps it shorter.
Punjabi, English and quoted Gurbani
Punjabi is detected automatically, as are English and Hindi, and a katha that switches between them is detected on its main language. Treat Punjabi output as a fast first draft and plan one review pass, especially for quoted lines of Gurbani, which a sevadar who knows them should check.

Why the archive helps the sangat
The katha was recorded. The young members who missed it, or who read English more easily, still cannot find it.

FAQ
Gurdwara recordings: common questions.
How long does a katha take to transcribe?
About 2 minutes per audio hour, so a 90-minute katha takes around 3 minutes. A four-hour Sunday programme comes back in about 8.
What will a year of recordings cost?
Fifty-two weekly katha of 90 minutes, 4,680 minutes, fit the $32 pack of 6,000 minutes. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire. Twelve monthly committee meetings of two hours, 1,440 minutes, fit the $18 pack of 3,000 minutes.
Will the kirtan appear in the transcript?
Mostly not. Sung kirtan behaves like music, and music is not transcribed. The speech around it, the katha and the announcements come back.
Can we use our YouTube stream?
Yes. Paste the YouTube link of the stream or its live replay. Replays longer than 6 hours start once a pack is on the account.
Can a whole day go in as one file?
A single file can run up to 10 hours or 5 GB. A longer day goes in as two files. Uploads can be up to 5 GB; a larger file can be split or sent as audio only.
Where are the recordings processed?
Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. The committee can delete the file and transcript once the text is saved.
