Transcribe life stories recorded in a hospice their words, kept for the family.
A life-story or family conversation recorded in a hospice, often 20 to 45 minutes at a time, is transcribed at about 2 minutes per audio hour, so a 40-minute session is text in under 2 minutes. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire.
Recording while there is time
Families often say the same thing afterwards: we wish we had recorded more. Recording is the hard part. The transcript should be easy.
Ask, then keep it gentle
Ask the person first, and follow the hospice's own guidance on recording; staff usually know what is welcome. Keep sessions short, twenty minutes or so when energy is low, and stop when they want to. A phone resting near the pillow, on a soft surface, picks up a quiet voice far better than one across the room.
Short sessions add up
Life-story work usually happens across many visits. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes. A longer project of 30 sessions of 45 minutes, 1,350 minutes, fits the $18 pack of 3,000 minutes. Credits never expire, so there is no rush to use them.
What comes back for the family
Each recording returns the full text with chapters for each memory, a brief of what was talked about, and the names, places and years that came up. Family members who speak are named in the summary. DOCX prints as a booklet; TXT can be shared with relatives who live far away.
From the phone to here
Voice memos and video clips from a phone usually upload as they are. Files up to 500 MB go in the box above; a longer recording continues on the upload page, up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. If a relative recorded a long visit on a camera, upload that file the same way.
Why a written copy matters
The voice recording is precious. So is being able to read the story about the farm without pressing play every time.

FAQ
Hospice recordings: questions families ask.
How long does a session take to transcribe?
About 2 minutes per audio hour, so a 40-minute conversation is back in under 2 minutes and a two-hour family visit in about 4.
What will a series of visits cost?
Twelve 40-minute sessions, 480 minutes, fit the $18 pack of 3,000 minutes. Thirty sessions of 45 minutes, 1,350 minutes, fit the $18 pack of 3,000 minutes. Every conversation starts with a free preview of its opening minutes, and a pack continues from where the preview ended.
The voice is very quiet. Will it work?
Put the phone close to the speaker and keep the room quiet, and soft voices usually come through. Very faint passages may need checking against the audio, and names from long ago may need a relative's correction.
Is this part of the care record?
No. It is for family memory and legacy work, not care notes or clinical records, and it is not meant for medical use.
They speak their first language, not English. Is that fine?
99 languages are detected automatically, with nothing to set. A conversation that moves between two languages is detected on its main one; ask someone who speaks the other to read those parts.
Who can hear these recordings?
Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Once you have downloaded the text, you can delete the file and the transcript from your Library.
