Transcribe long recordings from iCloud memos and videos from your iPhone.
A long Voice Memo or iPhone video synced through iCloud can be transcribed by downloading it on a Mac or at iCloud.com and uploading it here; a 3-hour memo comes back in about 6 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and the $6 pack of 500 minutes covers the remaining 160 minutes of that memo with 340 left over.
Getting the file out of iCloud
Your iPhone already synced the recording. It just needs to become a file you can pick.
Voice Memos on a Mac
When Voice Memos syncs through iCloud, the same memos appear in the Voice Memos app on your Mac. Drag a memo from the list to the desktop and you have an M4A file, ready to drop here. A three-hour lecture memo is small enough to upload in moments on most connections.
Files in iCloud Drive
If you saved the recording into iCloud Drive with the Files app, it shows in Finder on a Mac, or at iCloud.com under Drive, where you can download it. On a Mac with storage optimised, a cloud icon means the file is not on the disk yet; download it before you choose it here.
Straight from the iPhone
You can also skip the computer. Open this page in Safari on the iPhone and tap the upload box; the picker lets you browse iCloud Drive through Files, or choose a video from your photo library. Keep the screen awake until the upload finishes on a long video.
Video is where size matters
iPhone video at high resolution can pass 2 GB in well under an hour, while an audio memo of the same length is a fraction of that. Uploads before the first pack go up to 2 GB; one file can reach 10 hours or 5 GB once a pack is on the account.
Why phone recordings pile up
The memo synced everywhere, and still nobody has listened to it twice.

FAQ
Recordings from iCloud, answered.
How fast is a long memo transcribed?
At about 2 minutes per hour of audio, a 3-hour memo takes about 6 minutes and a one-hour memo about 2. The transcript waits in your Library, so the iPhone can go back in your pocket.
What do three hours cost?
A 3-hour recording is 180 minutes. The first 20 are free for a first-time visitor, and the $6 pack of 500 minutes transcribes the remaining 160. You pay once per pack, and unused minutes stay on the account for good.
Which file types come out of iCloud?
Voice Memos are M4A audio. Videos recorded on an iPhone are usually MOV files, sometimes MP4 depending on how they were shared or exported. Both upload as they are; if the upload refuses the file, convert it to MP3 first.
Does a long video need splitting?
No, as long as it stays within 10 hours and 5 GB. A video between 2 GB and 5 GB starts once a pack is on the account. A recording that ran past 10 hours goes in as two files.
My memos are not in English. Does that matter?
Yes, 99 languages are detected automatically, including Korean, Japanese, Spanish and Tagalog. You do not choose a language first, and a memo that switches language is detected on its main language.
Who can see my memos once uploaded?
Only your account. Memos are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete a memo and its transcript at any time. Save the text as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON.
