Backups are for keeping

A backup answers 'do we still have it?'. It never answered 'what was said at 3 o'clock?'.

Restore first, then upload

A backup copy is not something we can open from outside. Use the restore or download option in the IDrive desktop app, or sign in on the web and download the file; option names differ between the app and the browser, so look for Restore or Download on the file. Once it is a normal file on your computer, it is ready.

Pick the size that helps you

Archived masters are often WAV or camera video, which makes them large. One file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, even before a first pack. An audio-only MP3 or M4A copy of a big video uploads much faster and gives the same words. Up to 500 MB goes in the box above, bigger files on the upload page.

A back catalogue, costed

Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes. Credits never expire, so you can restore a year at a time.

What returns with each file

A brief with the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, the names, numbers and dates mentioned, the questions the recording answers and a chat over the transcript. Exports in TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, so the text can sit next to the restored audio wherever you keep it.

Why backed-up audio goes unused

Years of recordings, encrypted and versioned. Nobody restores a file just to listen for one sentence.

✗ A safe copy nobody reads

Protected, complete, and opened only after a disk fails.

  • Recordings kept only as backups
  • Restoring hours of audio to find a quote
  • Episode notes that were never written
  • Conference days split across devices
  • No way to search what was said
  • Masters too large for small upload caps

✓ A copy you can search

Restore once, upload once, keep the text.

  • Seven hours back in about 14 minutes
  • Files up to 5 GB in one piece
  • 4,500 minutes inside the $32 pack
  • Chapters for every talk and episode
  • Speakers named in the summary and chapters
  • Exports for show notes, captions and indexes

00:00:40 Welcome back. This one was recorded before the move, so the sound is a bit different.
00:22:05 We spent the first year getting the numbers wrong. Twelve hundred listeners, we thought, and it was nearer three hundred.
00:51:18 If you only remember one thing from today, check the contract before the launch, not after.
01:13:30 That's the episode. The next one goes out in two weeks.

FAQ

IDrive recordings, answered.

Can WhipScribe read my IDrive account directly?

No. There is no integration, connector or sign-in to IDrive. You restore or download the recording to your computer and upload it here; your backup and its encryption settings are untouched.

How long will a 7-hour recording take?

About 14 minutes once uploaded, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. A 75-minute episode takes about 2 to 3 minutes.

What will the whole archive cost?

Sixty 75-minute episodes, 4,500 minutes, fit the $32 pack of 6,000 minutes. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire.

My restored file is over 2 GB. What now?

Files up to 5 GB or 10 hours are accepted, with or without a pack on the account. Exporting an audio-only copy is usually the quicker route for a large video.

A recording runs for eleven hours. Can it go in as one file?

No. One file can be up to 10 hours, so split it at a break and upload the two halves. Each half comes back with its own chapters.

Where is the audio processed?

Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Delete the uploaded copy from your Library whenever you like; the backup stays as it was.
