Transcribe an iPhone call recording out of Notes, into a document.
On iPhones with call recording, a recorded call is saved in the Notes app, and you can save its audio to Files and upload it here. A 100-minute call is transcribed in under 4 minutes, the first 20 minutes are free, and five calls of that length fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes.
From the record button to a document
Recent iPhones can record a call. This turns a long one into notes you can use.
Where the call goes
When call recording is available on your iPhone, a record button appears on the call screen; both people hear that the call is being recorded. The recording is saved in Notes, usually in a folder for call recordings, along with the date and the number.
Save the audio out
Open the note, tap the recording and look in its menu for an option to save the audio to Files; on a Mac, the same note in Notes lets you drag or export the audio. The file is usually an M4A. Then pick it from Files in the upload box.
Built for a long call
Notes can show its own transcript, but a long call needs more than a wall of text. Here the call comes back with a brief, chapters with timestamps, the names, numbers and dates said, and a chat that answers questions about it.
The 100-minute arithmetic
A 100-minute call uses 100 minutes of credit. After the first 20 free minutes for a new visitor, the $6 pack of 500 minutes finishes it and keeps 400 minutes, which is four more calls of the same length.
Why the recording alone is not enough
The iPhone keeps the call. A long call still needs to be read, not replayed.
✗ A recording in a note
The call is safe in Notes, but one long recording per note, sorted by date, is a hard place to find a promise made in minute 70.
- Long calls listed only by date and number
- Replaying to check one detail
- Notes taken by hand after hanging up
- Several calls about one matter, in separate notes
- Nothing to forward but the audio
- Hard to quote the other person exactly
✓ A call with structure
Upload the saved audio and the call becomes a document you can share with a colleague, with the commitments listed.
- Chapters for each topic of the call
- Both people named in the summary
- Key quotes, each with its timestamp
- Dates, prices and numbers listed
- DOCX to file with the case or project
- Ask the transcript what was agreed

FAQ
iPhone call recordings, answered.
How long does a recorded iPhone call take?
The iPhone call is processed at about 2 minutes per hour of audio. A 100-minute call is ready in under 4 minutes, and a half-hour call in about a minute.
What does a 100-minute call cost?
One hundred minutes of credit. The first 20 minutes are free for a first-time visitor, the $6 pack of 500 minutes covers the rest, and 400 minutes stay on the account. Credits never expire and no subscription is required.
Does the other person know I am recording?
The iPhone plays a notice to both sides when recording starts. Beyond that, recording a call needs the consent the law where you are requires, so mention it yourself as well.
Why do I not see the record button?
Call recording depends on the iOS version, the region and sometimes the carrier, so it is not on every iPhone. If it is missing, an app such as TapeACall or a second device can record the call instead.
What if the call ran very long?
One file may hold up to 10 hours or 5 GB, and an M4A call reaches the 10 hours far before the 5 GB. Anything longer goes up as two files.
Which languages are recognised, and is the call private?
99 languages are detected automatically, including Korean, Japanese, Swedish and Hebrew. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and the call's transcript can be downloaded as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON.
