Transcribe a long Apple Notes recording lectures, meetings and workshops.
Apple Notes can record audio straight into a note on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and the recording can be saved out as an audio file to upload here. A 4-hour workshop recorded in Notes is transcribed in about 8 minutes; the first 20 minutes are free and the $6 pack of 500 minutes covers the rest with 260 minutes left.
From a note to a transcript
You recorded the session in Notes. Now get all four hours in writing.
Save the audio out
Open the note, tap the recording, then use its menu to save the audio to Files. On a Mac, the recording in the note can usually be dragged to the desktop or exported. Expect an M4A file; if your version names it differently, check the file's info before uploading.
Upload from any of your devices
Pick the file from Files in Safari on the iPhone or iPad, or drag it from the desktop on a Mac. If you keep it in Google Drive, the share link can be pasted instead of the file.
More than a transcript
Notes may show its own text under the recording. This returns the session with a brief of the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, the questions it answers and the names and numbers that came up.
Four hours on one pack
A 4-hour workshop is 240 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free for a new visitor; the $6 pack of 500 minutes transcribes the rest and leaves 260 minutes for the next session.
Why long Notes recordings get lost
Recording in Notes is one tap. Four hours of it is a lot to listen to.
✗ Audio buried in a note
The recording sits in a note between your typed bullets, and the part you missed is somewhere in hour three.
- A single long clip with no chapters
- Typed notes that stop when you got tired
- Searching by dragging a tiny scrubber
- Long recordings shared only as audio
- No list of names or numbers said
- The afternoon session never replayed
✓ The session as a document
Upload the saved audio, and the whole session comes back structured, with each speaker named where they matter.
- Chapters to hop between agenda topics
- Presenter and questions named in the summary
- Every number and date listed
- Key quotes with timestamps
- DOCX for the shared folder
- Ask the transcript about the part you missed
