Transcribe a Notability recording the lecture behind your handwriting.

Notability records lecture audio alongside your handwriting, and the recording can be exported from the note as an audio file to upload here. A 3-hour lecture comes back as text in about 6 minutes, the first 20 minutes are free, and a term of 24 lectures of 75 minutes fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.

From handwriting and audio to text

You wrote what you could. The recording has the rest of the lecture.

Export the recording

Open the note, open its recordings list and look for an option to share or export the audio; some versions also export the whole note with audio. In most versions the export is an M4A. Save it to Files or send it to a computer, then pick it in the upload box.

Only what you may record

Transcribe lectures your lecturer and institution let you record. Recording a class or a call needs the permission the rules and the law where you are require, so check the course policy first.

Line it up with your notes

Chapters come back with timestamps, so a page of handwriting from the second hour can be matched to the part of the lecture it came from, and the definitions said aloud are listed for revision.

A term of lectures, priced

Two courses with twelve lectures each, 75 minutes per lecture, make 1,800 minutes. That is more than 500, so the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes covers the term and leaves 200 minutes.

Why recorded lectures go unplayed

The audio is synced to your notes. You still cannot search it.

✗ A long recording behind the page

Tapping a word replays the moment, but a three-hour lecture still has to be heard to be found, and the exam is in a week.

  • Handwriting that skipped the hard part
  • Audio you cannot search for a term
  • Three hours to replay per lecture
  • Names and dates misheard in class
  • Revision from gaps in the notes
  • Questions from classmates lost

✓ The lecture as text

Upload the exported audio and the lecture returns with a brief, chapters and the terms and numbers that were said.

  • A 3-hour class readable in about 6 minutes
  • Lecturer and student questions named in the summary
  • Chapters to match your handwritten pages
  • Definitions, dates and formulas listed
  • Ask the transcript to explain a section
  • TXT or DOCX next to your notes

This sample is illustrative, written for this page rather than taken from a real lecture. The lecturer and student labels replace names a summary would show.

00:03:05 We start with cell signalling today and finish with the case study in the last hour.
01:12:44 Is the second messenger the same in both pathways, or only in the first one?
01:13:02 Only in the first. The second pathway skips it entirely, which is why it acts faster.
02:51:30 Everything after the break is examinable. Read the case study before the tutorial.

FAQ

Notability recordings, answered.

How long does a Notability lecture take?

About 2 minutes per hour of audio, so a 3-hour lecture takes about 6 minutes and a one-hour tutorial about 2.

What does one 3-hour lecture cost?

Three hours of lecture use 180 minutes of credit. The first 20 minutes are free for a first-time visitor, the $6 pack of 500 minutes transcribes the rest, and 320 minutes stay on the account. No subscription is required.

Does WhipScribe connect to Notability?

No. There is no integration or plugin; export the audio from the note, then upload the file here. The transcript lives in your WhipScribe Library, and you can paste it back into a note.

Is a 3-hour recording too large?

No. An M4A at 64 kbps is 28.8 MB an hour, so three hours is under 90 MB. Each file can run to 10 hours or 5 GB, and up to 2 GB uploads before your first pack.

What about lectures in other languages?

99 languages are detected automatically, so a lecture in Japanese, Portuguese or Zulu needs no setting. A class that switches between English and Tagalog is handled in the same transcript.

Are my lectures private, and what can I export?

Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete a lecture whenever you like. Your transcript exports as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON.
