Transcribe a long Jitsi Meet recording for the call notes nobody wrote.
A Jitsi Meet recording of two to four hours is transcribed in about 4 to 8 minutes: take the file from Dropbox, from your computer or from your server, and upload it here, up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. A 4-hour community call uses 240 minutes of the $6 pack's 500, after the first 20 minutes free. Dropbox links cannot be pasted, so download the file first.
Where Jitsi puts the recording
Jitsi records in three different ways. Each ends with a file you can upload.
Three places a recording lands
On meet.jit.si, recording is saved to a Dropbox account the moderator connects. Local recording in the browser saves a file to the moderator's own computer. A self-hosted Jitsi server records with its own recording service, usually to an MP4 on the server that the administrator can hand over. Wherever it lands, download the file and upload it.
Community calls run long
Open-source projects, volunteer groups and study circles use Jitsi because nobody needs an account, and their calls often run three or four hours. Twelve monthly 4-hour calls are 2,880 minutes, which sit on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes; a single call uses A 4-hour call: 240 of 500 pack minutes.
From Dropbox to here
A Dropbox share link is not one we fetch, so download the recording from Dropbox first. If your group already keeps recordings in Google Drive, paste the Drive share link or the folder link instead. Large files continue on the upload page.
Notes for people who missed it
A community call ends with decisions that half the members did not hear. The brief gives the takeaways, chapters show when each agenda item started, and contributors are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, so the call notes can be posted the same day.
Why long Jitsi calls stay unread
The call was recorded. The notes were never written.
✗ A file in Dropbox
The recording exists, and the members who missed the call still ask what happened.
- A Dropbox file nobody opens again
- Four hours of video for one vote
- Notes left to whoever volunteered
- A local file stuck on the moderator's laptop
- Tools that refuse anything over 25 MB
- Subscriptions a volunteer group cannot fund
✓ Notes the same day
One upload turns the call into notes the whole group can read.
- A 4-hour call back in about 8 minutes
- A 4-hour call: 240 of 500 pack minutes
- Every agenda item a timestamped chapter
- Votes and dates listed
- Each contributor named in the summary
- A DOCX to post as the call notes

FAQ
Jitsi Meet recordings, answered.
How long does a 4-hour Jitsi call take?
About 8 minutes after the upload, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. A 2-hour call takes about 4. Our proof page records a 4.94-hour file finished in 372 seconds.
What does a year of calls cost?
One 4-hour call is 240 minutes on the $6 pack of 500 minutes. A group meeting fortnightly for 2 hours uses about 3,120 minutes in a year, on the $24 pack of 5,000. The first 20 minutes are free on a first visit, and minutes never expire.
Can I paste the Dropbox link from Jitsi?
No. The links we fetch are YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Kick, Google Drive and podcast feeds. Download the recording from Dropbox and upload the file, or move it to Google Drive and paste that share link.
How big can a Jitsi recording be?
Each Jitsi file can be 10 hours or 5 GB. Without a pack, the limit per upload is 2 GB; a bigger file begins once a pack is on the account. A marathon session over 10 hours is uploaded as two files.
Our project is international. Which languages work?
99 are detected automatically, among them Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese and Zulu. A call that switches language is detected on its main language, and the switches are handled.
Which exports, and does anything join the call?
Call notes export as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Nothing joins your Jitsi room; only the file you upload is processed, on our own servers, and it is never used for training.
