Transcribe a long Olympus LS-P4 recording in the format you recorded.
Olympus LS-P4 recordings in FLAC, linear PCM WAV or MP3 upload here without conversion, and a four-hour talk comes back as text in about eight minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and a $6 pack of 500 minutes transcribes the rest of a four-hour file with 260 minutes to spare.
High-quality audio, used as text
You recorded in FLAC for the quality. There is no reason to throw it away to get a transcript.
No lossy step in between
The LS-P4 can record FLAC, PCM and MP3, and all three are accepted. Copy the file from the recorder or its microSD card and send it from upload page as it is. Converting to a small MP3 first only saves upload time, never accuracy.
What a long PCM file weighs
A 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo WAV runs about 635 MB an hour, so three hours is close to 1.9 GB. FLAC of the same audio is usually around half to two thirds of that. Before your first pack the limit is 2 GB, and after it 5 GB.
Speech, not the room
Talks recorded on an LS-P4 often include a musical opening, applause or a question from far back in the room. Music, applause and sound effects are not transcribed; what people said is, with a timestamp on every line.
Four hours, one pack
A four-hour session is 240 minutes. After the first 20 free minutes, the $6 pack of 500 covers the remainder, and the leftover minutes stay on the account with no expiry date.
Why lossless files trip up other tools
The better the recording, the bigger the file, and the sooner most uploads refuse it.
✗ Upload limits built for MP3
Lossless audio of a long talk often runs past the limits of free tools and some APIs.
- The OpenAI Whisper API's 25 MB upload limit
- Transcoding to MP3 before every upload
- Chopping a talk into parts to fit
- FLAC refused as an unknown type
- Music intros transcribed as noise
- No chapters across four hours
✓ The LS-P4 file, as recorded
One upload, in the format the recorder wrote.
- FLAC, WAV and MP3 accepted
- Up to 2 GB before a pack, 5 GB after
- About 2 minutes per hour of audio
- Music and applause skipped, speech kept
- Chapters with timestamps
- Five download formats

FAQ
Olympus LS-P4 files, the questions people ask.
How long does a four-hour LS-P4 file take?
About eight minutes after the upload completes, at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. A large WAV takes longer to upload than to transcribe, so a wired connection helps more than anything on our side.
What does a four-hour recording cost?
That is 240 minutes of audio. A first-time visitor gets the first 20 minutes free, and the $6 pack (500 minutes) transcribes the rest at $0.72 an audio hour. Recording a whole lecture series? Twenty hours is 1,200 minutes and fits the $12 pack.
My WAV is over 2 GB. Can I still upload it?
A file over 2 GB starts once a pack is on the account, up to 5 GB. If you would rather not wait, saving the file as FLAC or MP3 brings it well under 2 GB with no loss of words.
Should I split a long recording?
Only if it runs past 10 hours, which is the per-file limit; then it goes up as two files. Anything shorter goes up whole, so the chapters and timestamps follow the talk from start to finish.
Which languages can the talk be in?
Whatever the speaker used, out of 99 languages detected without a setting. Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Zulu and Tagalog are among them, and you never pick the language before uploading.
Which exports do I get, and is the file kept private?
Downloads come as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. You can delete the recording and its transcript whenever you like.
