Free editor exports · usually MP4 · up to 10 h

Transcribe long videos exported from OpenShot lectures, sermons and recorded talks.

Export the finished OpenShot project, usually as an MP4, and upload it here; a 2.5-hour lecture is transcribed in about 5 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free on a first visit, and the lecture uses 150 minutes of the $6 pack of 500, with 350 left.

A free editor, a paid-for result

OpenShot trims the lecture. WhipScribe gives you the words, the chapters and the questions it answered.

Export a single file

Use the export option, choose a common profile such as MP4 with H.264, and export the full timeline. Profile names change between releases, so if you do not see MP4, pick the closest web or YouTube preset. Advanced options may let you lower the resolution or bitrate before you export.

Keep it under the lines

At 2.5 Mbps, a 720p export is about 1.1 GB an hour, so a 2.5-hour lecture is near 2.8 GB, over the 2 GB allowed before a first pack. Halve the bitrate, or export a 128 kbps audio track of about 144 MB that fits the 500 MB box here. Video files up to 5 GB go through the upload page.

A semester in one pack

Thirteen 2.5-hour lectures add up to 1,950 minutes. The $12 pack of 2,000 covers the term with 50 minutes to spare; a second course of the same length moves you to the $24 pack of 5,000.

Study material that comes back

Each lecture returns a brief with the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, the terms, figures and dates spoken, and the questions the class covered. The chat answers questions over the whole transcript, and SRT or VTT can go back onto the video as captions.

FAQ

OpenShot exports, the common questions.

How long does a 2.5-hour OpenShot export take?

About 5 minutes after the upload finishes, at around 2 minutes per hour of audio. The upload is usually the slower part with a large video file.

Which export format should I pick?

An MP4 is the safe default. If your OpenShot version lets you export audio only, that file is far smaller and transcribes exactly the same, since only the speech is used.

How much is a full term of lectures?

The first 20 minutes are free on a first visit; a longer lecture is previewed until a pack transcribes the rest from where the preview stopped. Thirteen 2.5-hour lectures are 1,950 minutes, inside the $12 pack of 2,000. Packs are one-time payments.

Does WhipScribe plug into OpenShot?

No. There is no plugin or integration. Export the video from OpenShot and upload it here, or paste the link if you posted the lecture to YouTube or Vimeo.

What are the size and length limits?

Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. Before the first pack, files up to 2 GB; a larger one starts once a pack is on the account. A recording over 10 hours goes up as two files.

What happens to the recording?

We transcribe on our own servers, and your recording is never used to train anything. Exports are TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, and 99 languages are detected automatically.
