Transcribe long recordings from Shotcut the event, exported small.
To transcribe a long Shotcut project, export a small MP4 or an audio-only file and upload it, up to 10 hours or 5 GB; a 6-hour event comes back as text in about 12 minutes. As a 128 kbps MP3 those six hours are about 346 MB, and their 360 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes after the first 20 minutes free.
From Shotcut to text
A full day of event footage becomes one export and one document.
Choosing the export
Shotcut's Export panel lists presets for video and for audio. For a transcript, an audio preset such as MP3 is the smallest choice; a standard MP4 with a modest bitrate works just as well if you also want the video. Check the export settings for the folder and file name before you press Export File. WhipScribe has no link into Shotcut; it reads the exported file.
Six hours, sized
An MP3 at 128 kbps writes 57.6 MB per hour, so a 6-hour event exports to about 346 MB. A video export at 4 Mbps would be 1.8 GB an hour, nearly 11 GB for the day, which is past the 5 GB limit and is why the audio export is the safer route.
A two-day conference
Two days of 6 hours make 720 minutes, more than the $6 pack's 500. The $12 pack of 2,000 minutes covers both days at $0.36 an audio hour, with 1,280 minutes left for the next event. One day alone fits the $6 pack with 140 minutes spare.
From the event to a write-up
Each export returns with a brief of the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps for every session, and the names, numbers and dates spoken from the stage. Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, ready for a recap post or a report to sponsors.
Event footage elsewhere
A full-day event video is far too large for most transcription uploads.
✗ The usual problem
A day of talks stuck in a video file.
- An 11 GB day that no upload will take
- Free tiers that stop at the first session
- A 25 MB cap on the Whisper API
- Exporting each talk as its own clip
- Stitching the text back together
- A recap written from slides alone
✓ With a Shotcut audio export
One small file, one long document.
- About 346 MB for six hours
- Around 12 minutes for the whole day
- A chapter per session
- Panelists named in quotes and summary
- Two days on the $12 pack
- Captions in SRT or VTT

FAQ
Shotcut exports, the common questions.
How long does a 6-hour Shotcut export take?
About 12 minutes at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. The proof page lists a 9.31-hour file finished in 1,033 seconds, about 17 minutes.
What does a full-day event cost?
On your first visit the event's opening 20 minutes are free. Six hours is 360 minutes, which fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes; two days, 720 minutes, belong on the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.
My video export is over 5 GB. What should I do?
Export the audio instead, or a lower-bitrate MP4. Each file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, and before your first pack uploads go up to 2 GB.
Should I export each session as its own file?
Either works. One file keeps the whole day on one clock with a chapter per session; separate files give each talk its own brief. If the day runs past 10 hours, it has to be two files.
What if speakers use different languages?
99 languages are detected automatically. An event that switches language is detected on its main language, and the switches are handled.
Which exports come back, and is the event footage safe?
The event comes back in TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete the file and its text whenever you like.
