Transcribe long videos exported from Pinnacle Studio tape transfers, family stories and events.
Export the Pinnacle Studio project, usually as an MP4, and upload it here; a 2-hour video is transcribed in about 4 minutes. A first-time visitor gets the first 20 minutes free, and the video uses 120 minutes of the $6 pack of 500, leaving 380.
Old tapes, new text
The stories your family told on camera, written down with the time each one starts.
Export each tape on its own
In the export step, choose MP4 with H.264, or the nearest preset your version offers. Export one file per tape or event rather than one long compilation: the timestamps stay meaningful and no file comes near the 10-hour limit.
Size for a two-hour transfer
At 3 Mbps a 720p export is about 1.35 GB an hour, so two hours is near 2.7 GB, above the 2 GB allowed before a first pack. At 2 Mbps the same video is about 1.8 GB. The box here takes 500 MB, and the upload page takes files up to 5 GB.
A shoebox of tapes
Five 2-hour tapes are 600 minutes, more than the $6 pack, so the $12 pack of 2,000 covers them with 1,400 left. Forty tapes come to 4,800 minutes, a fit for the $24 pack of 5,000 with 200 to spare.
Find the story, not the tape
Each video comes back with chapters and timestamps, the names, places and dates people mentioned, a brief with takeaways, and a chat that answers questions such as when the farm was sold. Background music and noise are not transcribed; the speech is.
Digitised, but still unwatched
The tapes are finally files, and nobody can find the part where grandfather tells the story.
✗ A box of digitised tapes
Safe from decay, still impossible to search.
- Hours of video per tape
- Stories found by fast-forwarding
- Names and dates half-remembered
- Relatives asking for one clip
- Files too big to email
- Nothing written for the family book
✓ Tapes with transcripts
Every story as text, with the time it starts.
- About 4 minutes per 2-hour tape
- A 2 Mbps export at about 1.8 GB
- Chapters for each event
- Names, places and dates listed
- DOCX for the family history
- $12 for five tapes

FAQ
Pinnacle Studio videos, answered.
How long will a 2-hour Pinnacle Studio video take?
About 4 minutes after upload, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. A smaller export uploads sooner and transcribes the same.
Will old tape audio work?
Usually, as long as the voices are audible. Hiss and hum can cause gaps in quiet passages; clearer speech gives a cleaner transcript. Music and background noise are skipped.
What does a box of tapes cost?
A first visit transcribes 20 minutes free, then previews the rest of the tape until a pack completes it. Five 2-hour tapes are 600 minutes, covered by the $12 pack of 2,000. Credits never expire, so the rest waits for the next box.
Does WhipScribe work inside Pinnacle Studio?
No. There is no plugin or integration; export the video and upload it. If you shared it privately on YouTube or Vimeo, paste that link instead.
Can I upload one huge compilation?
A single file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, and before a first pack files over 2 GB wait until a pack is on the account. Separate files per tape are easier to search and stay within the limits.
Are family videos kept private?
Family recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Downloads come as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, and 99 languages are detected automatically, so a relative speaking another language is handled.
