From a long session to text

RecForge II is built for recording that runs all day; the transcript should keep up with that.

Exporting the session

Open the recording in RecForge II's file list and use the share option to send it to Google Drive, email or another app. Pasting a Drive share link here avoids moving the file at all. Where the app stores sessions on the phone is set in its preferences, so check that folder if you prefer a file manager or a USB cable to a computer.

Format and size for six hours

An MP3 at 128 kbps is 57.6 MB an hour, so six hours land near 346 MB. OGG at a similar quality is usually smaller still. A 16-bit mono WAV at 44.1 kHz runs about 318 MB an hour, roughly 1.9 GB for the same day, just under the 2 GB that uploads before a pack.

Interviews by the dozen

A researcher with twenty 75-minute field interviews has 1,500 minutes of audio. That sits on the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes at $0.36 an audio hour, with 500 minutes left for follow-ups. One long day on its own fits the $6 pack.

Finding the moment in hour five

The session comes back with chapters at the points the conversation turned, a brief with the main points, and the names, numbers and dates people said. Ask the chat when the budget figure first came up and it returns the timestamp. People who spoke are named in the summary, chapters and key quotes.

All-day recordings, as they usually end

Six hours of audio is easy to capture and hard to use without the words on a page.

✗ Without a transcript

The audio is there; nobody has time for it.

  • A session too long to replay for one quote
  • OGG files that some editors will not open
  • Files bounced by the Whisper API past 25 MB
  • Splitting the day by hand into short clips
  • Notes written from memory that evening
  • Key moments lost somewhere in hour four

✓ After one upload

The full session, searchable.

  • The MP3, OGG or WAV sent as recorded
  • A whole day readable in about 12 minutes
  • Chapters at each turn of the conversation
  • Figures and dates said aloud, collected
  • A twenty-interview project inside the $12 pack
  • SRT, DOCX or JSON from the same run

FAQ

RecForge II recordings, answered.

How quickly does a 6-hour RecForge II session come back?

In about 12 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes for each hour of audio. A 1-hour session takes about 2 minutes, and the proof page records 9.31 hours finished in 1,033 seconds.

Which format should I choose for long sessions?

MP3 or OGG keep a full day small and transcribe just as well for speech. WAV is the right choice only if you also plan to edit the audio, since six hours of it is close to 2 GB. Check the format setting before the day starts, since changing it later means converting.

My session ran past 10 hours. What now?

One file may hold 10 hours or 5 GB, whichever comes first. Cut a longer session into two files in an audio editor, or check whether the app already saved it in parts, and upload each piece. The transcripts are separate, but the chat answers over each of them.

What does a batch of interviews cost?

New visitors get the first 20 minutes free, and a longer file is previewed; a pack from $6 transcribes the rest from the preview's end. Twenty 75-minute interviews make 1,500 minutes on the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes, and credits never expire.

Can I use it on recorded calls or meetings?

Yes, the audio is treated the same way, but recording other people requires the consent the law where you are sets out. The language spoken is detected automatically from 99, and a conversation that switches language is detected on its main one.

What exports are offered, and is the audio kept private?

TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON are all available from each session. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, which matters for field interviews with private stories in them.
