Narration, spoken word, interviews · ~2 min per audio hour

Transcribe long sessions from a recording studio what was read, against what was written.

A long session from a recording studio, whether 3 hours of audiobook narration or a 2-hour spoken-word take, comes back as text at about 2 minutes per audio hour, so the 3-hour session takes around 6 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and a finished 10-hour audiobook, 600 minutes, fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.

What the text does in the studio

The engineer hears every breath. The text shows every word that differs from the page.

Narration against the manuscript

Lay the transcript beside the manuscript and differences jump out: a skipped line, a swapped word, a name read two ways. Each one has a timestamp, so the pickup list writes itself before the next session.

Session files and their size

Uncompressed studio WAV at broadcast settings runs to roughly 1 GB per hour in stereo, about half that in mono. Until a pack is on the account, uploads over 2 GB wait for it, so a bounced MP3 is the quick way to send a long take. Every file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB.

A book, costed

A 10-hour finished audiobook is 600 minutes, 100 more than the $6 pack holds, so it goes on the $12 pack of 2,000 with 1,400 left for raw sessions. A single 3-hour session uses 180 minutes of the $6 pack.

Beds and stings are skipped

Music beds, stings and sound design are not transcribed. Spoken word, interviews and narration are, which makes the transcript a clean script to check, publish or caption from. Room tone and breaths are ignored as well, so the text holds the words and nothing else.

Why sessions need text

Proofing a 10-hour book by ear means listening to all 10 hours.

✗ Proofing by ear alone

Every hour of narration takes at least an hour to check, and errors slip past tired ears.

  • Hours of playback to proof one chapter
  • Missed lines found after mastering
  • Pickup lists written by hand
  • Interview quotes retyped for the liner notes
  • No text version for the client
  • Tools that stop well short of a full session

✓ A transcript to proof against

The session comes back as text with times, ready to compare with the script.

  • About 6 minutes for a 3-hour session
  • First 20 minutes free
  • Chapters that follow the book's chapters
  • Timestamps for every pickup
  • Narrator and guests named in the summary
  • DOCX, TXT, SRT, VTT and JSON

FAQ

Recording studio sessions: questions answered.

How long does a narration session take to transcribe?

About 2 minutes for every hour of audio. A 3-hour session is ready in around 6 minutes; the proof page shows 9.31 hours done in 1,033 seconds.

Can I upload the WAV straight from the session?

Yes. WAV, MP3 and M4A exports usually go in as they are; if an unusual export is refused, bounce it to WAV or MP3. Before a first pack the size limit is 2 GB, after that 5 GB, with 10 hours per file.

What does a whole audiobook cost?

A 10-hour book is 600 minutes on the $12 pack of 2,000. Three books of that length, 1,800 minutes, still fit the same pack. A 6-hour novella, 360 minutes, fits the $6 pack of 500.

Will it show where the narrator restarted?

Restarts and false starts appear in the text with their times, which is how most people find pickups. The transcript records what was said, not the edit points in your session. Mark each pickup in the DOCX and send the list to the narrator before the next session.

Is it suitable for publishing the text?

It is a strong first draft. Proofread names and invented words against the manuscript before anything goes out. Character voices and accents in fiction are transcribed as words, though unusual spellings will follow the most common form.

Who hears the session?

Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Delete the file and transcript when the job is done.
