From the desk mic

The NT-USB Mini feeds your recording software. The file it saves is what you send us.

Where the recording ends up

The mic plugs in by USB and the recording is made by software: RØDE's own app, Audacity, a DAW, or the recording feature of a call tool. Export or locate the saved file, usually WAV, MP3 or M4A depending on the app, and drop it here. If the episode is already on YouTube or in a podcast feed, paste that link instead.

Recording a call: both sides

The NT-USB Mini only hears your side of the room. To get the guest too, record in a tool that captures the whole call, or mix both tracks before you export. A recording with one side only comes back with only that side. Recording a call also needs the consent the law where you are requires.

A season of episodes, priced

A weekly 2-hour episode is 120 minutes; a month of four is 480, inside the $6 pack of 500. A full archive of 41 episodes is 4,920 minutes, which the $24 pack of 5,000 covers with 80 to spare. Minutes never expire, so buying once for the year works.

What a long episode turns into

You get a brief of the episode's thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps ready for show notes, and the names, numbers and dates said on air. Host and guest are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, and the chat answers what the guest said about pricing in the second hour.

Long podcasts and calls

00:00:45 Thanks for coming on. Let us start with how you got into this, because it was not the obvious route.
00:41:20 I spent two years doing it badly before anybody paid me for it.
01:18:05 What would you tell someone who is in year one of that right now?
01:56:30 Write everything down. Half of what I know now came from notes I nearly threw away.

FAQ

RØDE NT-USB Mini recordings, answered.

How long does a 2-hour NT-USB Mini episode take?

About 4 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. A 45-minute call is back in under 2.

What does a year of weekly 2-hour episodes cost?

Fifty-two episodes are 6,240 minutes. The $24 pack of 5,000 covers 41 of them; the rest, 1,320 minutes, fit a $12 pack of 2,000. A single episode fits the $6 pack of 500.

Is there a RØDE plugin or app connection?

No. WhipScribe has no integration with the mic or with RØDE's software. Export the recording as a file and upload it, or paste a link where it is published.

Why is only my voice in the transcript?

The recording only had your side. Record the call in software that captures both sides, or export a mix with the guest's track, and upload that.

How big can the file be?

A file can be as long as 10 hours or as large as 5 GB. Before the first pack, files up to 2 GB upload, which covers hours of MP3 and most WAV exports of a single episode.

Which exports are there, and are calls private?

Formats: TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete them at any time.
