Transcribe recordings from a simulation lab scenarios and debriefs, for training.
A nursing simulation session, a 25-minute scenario followed by a 50-minute debrief, is about 75 minutes of audio and comes back as text in about 2 to 3 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free on a first visit, and a semester of 16 sessions, 1,200 minutes, fits the $12 pack of 2,000.
How sim labs record
Cameras over the bed, a microphone in the manikin's room, and a debrief that holds most of the learning.
The capture system does the recording
Simulation centres usually run an audio-visual system that records the scenario from ceiling cameras and room microphones and then records the debrief in the room next door. The control room operator can usually export a session as a video file, often an MP4; check the export settings on your system. Where there is no system, a phone in the middle of the debrief table records the conversation well.
Debriefs are where the talk is
The scenario itself is short bursts of speech over monitor alarms and movement. The debrief is long, calm and full of reasoning, which is what educators want in writing. If the lab can export the debrief as its own file, send that. If not, upload the whole session; the alarms and equipment noise are not transcribed, only the speech.
What you get back
Each session returns a brief with the learning points the group reached, chapters for the reaction, analysis and summary phases of the debrief, the drug names, doses and observations said aloud, the questions the session answered, and a chat over the text. The facilitator and students are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.
A teaching year, priced
Sixteen sessions of 75 minutes are 1,200 minutes, inside the $12 pack of 2,000 with 800 spare. Three cohorts running the same programme are 3,600 minutes, which the $24 pack of 5,000 covers with 1,400 left for faculty development sessions.
Why debrief learning fades
A good debrief produces insight in the room and almost nothing on paper.
✗ Debriefs that vanish
Students remember the feeling of the scenario, not the reasoning that followed it.
- Reflective essays written from memory
- Facilitators replaying video at night
- Key teaching points never written down
- Recordings kept but never searched
- Free tools that stop mid-debrief
- No way to compare cohorts
✓ Debriefs on the page
Upload the session and teach from the transcript.
- Debrief phases as chapters
- Learning points in the brief
- Speakers named in the summary
- Moments found by timestamp
- DOCX for reflective writing

FAQ
Simulation lab recordings, answered.
How long does a simulation session take to transcribe?
About 2 minutes per hour of audio. A 75-minute scenario and debrief is ready in roughly 2 to 3 minutes; a half-day of three sessions in about 8.
What does one debrief cost?
On a first visit the first 20 minutes are free. A 50-minute debrief then needs 30 more minutes, which come from the $6 pack of 500 and leave 470 for later sessions. Packs are paid once and the minutes do not expire.
Can this be used for real patient care?
No. This page is about training: simulated scenarios, debriefs and teaching sessions. The transcript is a study and teaching aid, not a clinical record, and real patient details should not be in the recording.
Do students need to agree to the recording?
Yes. Ask everyone in the session and follow your centre's own policy on recording students and standardised patients. Many centres already cover recording in the simulation agreement students sign at the start of the course.
The export from our sim system is very large.
The box on this page takes files up to 500 MB, and bigger files carry on through the main upload page, up to 10 hours or 5 GB each. Before the first pack, uploads up to 2 GB start straight away; a larger file starts once a pack is on the account. Exporting audio only, or the debrief alone, makes the file much smaller.
Is the recording private, and what can I download?
Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Each session downloads as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, and the file and transcript can be deleted at any time.
