Transcribe long sessions from a Sony PCM-D10 even when the hi-res WAV runs to gigabytes.
A 4-hour session from a Sony PCM-D10 transcribes in about 8 minutes, as long as the file is under 5 GB; a 24-bit, 96 kHz stereo WAV passes that at about 2 hours 25 minutes, so record in MP3 or convert a copy. The first 20 minutes are free, and 240 minutes leave 260 on a $6 pack of 500.
Hi-res meets long
The PCM-D10 is built for music-grade audio. For a four-hour talk, the file size is the thing to plan.
How big a hi-res take gets
At 24-bit, 96 kHz stereo, every second is 96,000 × 3 bytes × 2 channels, about 576 KB, which is roughly 2.07 GB an hour. A 4-hour session is about 8.3 GB, past the 5 GB a file can be. At 24-bit, 48 kHz the same session is about 4.1 GB and fits.
Record MP3 or convert
For speech, the transcript is the same from a 128 kbps MP3 as from a hi-res WAV. Recording long sessions in MP3 keeps four hours to about 230 MB. If you already have the big WAV, export an MP3 or 16-bit copy in any audio editor and keep the original for the archive.
Where the files are
The PCM-D10 records to internal memory or an SD card. Connect it to a computer by USB, or read the card in a reader, copy the session file, and send it from upload page. A copy of several gigabytes travels more reliably on a wired connection.
A long day, organised
The session returns with a brief, chapters with timestamps for each part of the day, the names and figures said, and the questions it answered. People are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, so a panel or a workshop reads in the order it happened.
Hi-res recordings elsewhere
The higher the resolution, the sooner a long take hits a wall.
✗ Where it breaks
Studio-grade audio, then a size error.
- A 25 MB limit on the OpenAI Whisper API
- Multi-gigabyte WAVs refused outright
- Hours spent cutting the take into parts
- Parts that each restart at 00:00
- No idea which part held the key remark
- Sessions shelved because the file is too big
✓ Planned once, sent once
A file that fits, a transcript that covers the day.
- Any file to 5 GB or 10 hours
- Four hours of hi-res audio back in about 8 minutes
- A single timeline for the whole session
- Chapters for each part of the day
- First 20 minutes free
- 260 of the $6 pack's minutes still yours

FAQ
Sony PCM-D10 recordings, the common questions.
How quickly does a 4-hour PCM-D10 file come back?
In about 8 minutes. For comparison, the proof page shows a 9.31-hour file done in 1,033 seconds, a little over 17 minutes.
What will a 4-hour PCM-D10 session cost me?
Your first visit covers the opening 20 minutes of the session. The 240 minutes come from the $6 pack of 500, leaving 260. If you record a session like this every week, eight of them is 1,920 minutes and fits the $12 pack of 2,000.
My 96 kHz WAV is over 5 GB. What should I do?
Export a copy as MP3 or as 16-bit, 48 kHz WAV and upload that. Speech transcribes the same, and the hi-res original stays untouched for your archive.
Can I split it instead of converting?
You can, and each part becomes its own transcript. Converting keeps the session in one document with one set of timestamps, which is easier to search.
What languages does it handle?
99, detected automatically, so a session in Korean, Portuguese or Afrikaans needs no setting. If speakers switch language mid-session, the main language decides detection.
Which formats come out, and is the audio kept private?
Five downloads: TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Nobody trains on your sessions; recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
