Squarespace blog podcast · RSS or audio file · 10 h per file

Transcribe your Squarespace podcast every episode post with its words.

A podcast episode hosted on a Squarespace site is transcribed from the blog page's RSS feed or the audio file you uploaded, and a 90-minute episode is text in about 3 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free; one episode uses 90 of the 500 minutes in the $6 pack, and two years of monthly 90-minute episodes (2,160 minutes) go on the $24 pack of 5,000.

Squarespace episodes

The episode post is already on your site. Give it the conversation, not just a player.

Finding the feed

On Squarespace a podcast runs from a blog page set up for podcasting, and that page publishes the RSS feed podcast apps read. Squarespace's help pages show where the feed address is; it is tied to the blog page's URL. Paste it here, pick the episode, and the audio is fetched without any download.

Or the original audio

The audio block in each post was filled from a file on your computer, typically an MP3 or M4A. Upload that file if you still have it. A 90-minute MP3 at 128 kbps is about 86 MB; the box on this page takes up to 500 MB, and bigger files continue on the main upload page.

Why the text belongs on the page

An episode post with the full conversation gives Squarespace search and outside search engines words to match. Chapters make a timestamped outline for the post, the brief writes the summary paragraph, and the names, numbers and dates said on air are pulled out so links in the show notes are quick to add.

Picking the pack

One 90-minute episode fits the $6 pack of 500. Twenty episodes of the same length are 1,800 minutes, on the $12 pack of 2,000. Twenty-four monthly episodes are 2,160 minutes, just past 2,000, so they belong on the $24 pack of 5,000, which leaves 2,840 for the next two years.

Podcast pages on Squarespace

A beautiful episode page with a player, a photo and almost nothing to read.

✗ Design without words

The template looks finished; the content stays inside the audio.

  • Episode posts of two sentences
  • Show notes written by ear
  • Guests hard to find through site search
  • Older episodes buried by date
  • Quotes for the newsletter retyped
  • No text for visitors who cannot listen

✓ Episode posts with substance

The feed link returns transcript, brief and chapters.

  • About 3 minutes per 90-minute episode
  • A full transcript under the player
  • Timestamped outline for each post
  • Guests named in the summary and quotes
  • Two years of monthly shows on the $24 pack
  • Newsletter quotes ready to copy

00:03:28 This month we are talking about pricing creative work, which is everyone's least favourite subject.
00:29:51 I stopped quoting by the hour in my second year. I quote by the outcome and the number of revisions.
00:58:14 A listener asks whether to show prices on the website. My answer: show a starting price, always.
01:26:40 That is it for this month. The templates we mentioned are linked in the post.

FAQ

Squarespace podcasts: questions and answers.

How long does a 90-minute episode take?

About 3 minutes, at close to 2 minutes per audio hour. A 3-hour special takes about 6.

Do I need a Squarespace extension?

No. WhipScribe has no Squarespace integration or extension. It reads the public feed you paste, or the file you upload, and you add the text to the post in the Squarespace editor yourself.

My audio was uploaded straight into the post. Can I still use a link?

Yes, if the blog page is set up as a podcast, the episode is in its feed, and the feed address works. If the episode is not in a feed, upload the original audio file instead.

What does a full archive cost?

The first 20 minutes are free. A single 90-minute episode uses the $6 pack of 500; twenty such episodes use the $12 pack of 2,000; twenty-four monthly ones (2,160 minutes) use the $24 pack of 5,000. Minutes never expire.

Does it handle music and sound design?

Music, sound effects and applause are not transcribed; the speech is. Intros with a music bed come back as the spoken words only.

Which exports, and is it private?

TXT and DOCX for the post, SRT and VTT for a video cut, JSON for scripts. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete any episode.
