StreamElements · OBS recordings and VODs · about 14 min for 7 hours

Transcribe long streams run with StreamElements the recording, not the overlay.

StreamElements handles overlays, alerts and the chatbot, so a long stream transcribes from your OBS recording uploaded here or from the Twitch, Kick or YouTube VOD link, and 7 hours come back in about 14 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and that 420-minute stream fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes.

Where the words actually are

Your overlays live in StreamElements; your voice lives in the recording.

Two places to look

StreamElements is the toolkit around the stream, not the recorder. The words you said are in the recording OBS wrote to disk, if recording was on, and in the VOD your platform kept. For Twitch, Kick or a YouTube live replay, paste the link: nothing to download, nothing to upload.

Uploading the OBS file

OBS saves where its output settings point, often as MKV or MP4. The box here takes 500 MB; a 7-hour recording is usually far larger and goes through upload page, which accepts up to 10 hours or 5 GB. If the recording passes 5 GB, convert it to audio first.

Subathons and marathons

A stream longer than 6 hours starts once a pack is on the account, and one file stops at 10 hours. A 30-hour subathon is therefore split into parts, which together use 1,800 minutes, inside the $12 pack of 2,000. A single 7-hour stream stays within the $6 pack.

Alerts in the audio

Alert jingles, music and game sound effects are not transcribed. A donation message read out by text-to-speech is speech, so it may show up in the text; you can trim it out afterwards. Everything you said between alerts, from the schedule to answers for chat, is kept with its timestamp, so a clip editor can jump straight to the right minute instead of scrubbing a timeline.

Long streams, no record

Seven hours of talk sit behind the overlays, and none of it is written down.

✗ VOD only

A whole day of streaming, impossible to search.

  • Clip editors guessing where moments are
  • Rules for the giveaway buried in hour five
  • OpenAI's Whisper API rejects files bigger than 25 MB
  • A VOD that expires on the platform
  • Captions skipped because they take too long
  • Mods asked to repeat what you said

✓ Stream transcribed

The full VOD as text with times.

  • About 14 minutes for 7 hours
  • Chapters at each segment
  • Giveaway dates listed
  • SRT for clip captions
  • A searchable copy that stays
  • Chat to find any moment

FAQ

StreamElements streams, the common questions.

Does StreamElements save a recording I can upload?

The recording usually comes from OBS on your computer or the VOD on your platform, not from StreamElements. Use whichever you have: paste a Twitch, Kick or YouTube link, or upload the OBS file.

How long does a 7-hour stream take?

About 14 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. On /proof/long-files 9.31 hours finished in 1,033 seconds.

What does it cost?

Your first visit includes 20 free minutes, and the rest of a long stream is previewed. A pack from $6 transcribes the rest; a 7-hour stream, 420 minutes, fits the $6 pack of 500. Credits never expire.

Why does my long VOD wait for a pack?

Streams over 6 hours start once a pack is on the account, and before the first pack an upload can be up to 2 GB. Each file still runs up to 10 hours or 5 GB.

Are speakers kept apart when a guest joins?

Speakers are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, so a guest segment shows up there. The transcript itself reads as continuous text.

Is there a StreamElements plugin?

No plugin, integration or bot. WhipScribe works on the recording afterwards, on our own servers, and never uses it for training. Nothing touches your overlays, alerts or chatbot settings.
