Transcribe Substack live video sessions from live conversation to written post.

A long Substack live session is transcribed from the recording the writer keeps after the stream, and a 90-minute live conversation is text in about 3 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and thirteen weekly one-hour lives (780 minutes) fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.

Packs from $6, credits never expire · then from $0.36/hour · Credits never expire · Never used to train AI
✓90 minutes in about 3 · ✓A post draft from every live · ✓First 20 minutes free · ✓No Substack connection

Live on Substack, then in writing

Your readers subscribed to read. Give the live session back to them as text.

Getting the recording out

After a live session ends, Substack can keep the recording for your publication, and how you reach the file has changed over time. Check the post or the dashboard where the recording sits for a download option. If you recorded your own side locally, or a guest sent their copy, that file works just as well.

When a link is quicker

If the session also went out on YouTube, or if your publication's podcast feed carries the recording, paste that link or feed and the audio is fetched for you. The box on this page takes files up to 500 MB; larger video continues on the main upload page, still up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file.

From session to post

The brief gives you the thesis and the takeaways, the chapters give the post its sections, and the key quotes are the lines worth pulling into the email. Most writers edit the transcript into a readable recap rather than publishing it raw; the questions the session answers often make the best subheads.

A season of lives

Thirteen weekly one-hour sessions are 780 minutes, on the $12 pack of 2,000, with room for a quarter more. One 90-minute conversation with a guest is 90 minutes on the $6 pack of 500. Credits do not expire between seasons.

Live sessions that vanish

The live was the best conversation you had all month, and most subscribers missed it.

✗ Watch it or lose it

The replay sits there; readers rarely press play.

  • A recap written from memory
  • Guest insights paraphrased loosely
  • No searchable record of what was said
  • Paying readers who prefer text left out
  • Notes taken while hosting
  • Good lines lost for the next email

✓ Every live, written

One upload returns the transcript, brief and chapters.

  • About 3 minutes per 90-minute live
  • Sections for a recap post
  • Pull quotes for the email
  • Guests named in the summary and quotes
  • A season of lives on the $12 pack
  • DOCX to edit in your own words

FAQ

Substack lives: questions writers ask.

How long does a 90-minute live take?

About 3 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. A two-hour panel takes around 4.

Is there a Substack integration?

No. WhipScribe does not connect to Substack, join a live or post anything. You upload the recording or paste a public link once the session is over, then write your post as usual.

My guest is in the recording. Do they need to know?

Guests on a live already know it is broadcast. If you transcribe a private call or a side recording, get the consent that the law where you and your guest are requires before recording.

How big is a downloaded live video?

At 720p and about 2.5 Mbps, 90 minutes is roughly 1.7 GB, under the 2 GB that uploads before a pack. A 1080p copy may be larger; an audio-only file of the same session is under 100 MB.

What does a season cost?

The first 20 minutes are free. One 90-minute live is on the $6 pack of 500; thirteen one-hour lives are 780 minutes on the $12 pack of 2,000; a year of weekly 90-minute lives (4,680 minutes) uses the $24 pack of 5,000.

Which formats, and is it private?

TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON from the same run. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
