Transcribe a long recording sent by WeTransfer before the transfer expires.
When a client sends a long recording by WeTransfer, download it, unzip it if it arrived as a ZIP, and upload the audio or video here; a 3 GB, 5-hour recording becomes text in about 10 minutes. A file over 2 GB starts once a pack is on the account, and the $6 pack of 500 minutes covers all 300 minutes with 200 to spare.
From the transfer email to a transcript
WeTransfer delivers the file. You still have to turn five hours of it into something you can read.
Download it while you can
A WeTransfer link stays live only for a limited number of days, and after that the file is gone from their side. Download it as soon as the email arrives. If the sender put several files in one transfer, the download comes as a ZIP; unzip it and pick the recording itself.
A link we cannot paste
A WeTransfer link opens a download page, not a media file, so it is not one of the links we fetch. Those are YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Kick, Google Drive and podcast feeds. Upload the downloaded file instead; anything larger than this box takes continues on the upload page.
How 3 GB maps to hours
A video file at about 1.3 megabits per second fills about 600 MB an hour, so a 3 GB file at that rate holds roughly five hours. The same five hours as a 128 kbps MP3 is under 300 MB. The audio length is what you pay for, not the size.
Deliverables for the client
Five hours come back with a brief carrying the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, the names, figures and dates said aloud, and the questions the recording answers. Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, which is usually what a client asks for first.
Why a big transfer stalls a job
The client sent three gigabytes. The brief is due tomorrow.
✗ Working from the raw file
The recording arrives, expires on WeTransfer, and lives on one laptop.
- A link that dies after a few days
- Five hours to listen through
- A file too big for most AI uploads
- Notes typed with the video paused
- No timestamps to send back
- Questions from the client you cannot check quickly
✓ Working from text
Download once, upload once, and work from searchable text.
- Five hours turned around in about 10 minutes
- A 3 GB file in one piece
- The $6 pack covers all 300 minutes
- Chapters to send with the brief
- Timestamps for every quote
- DOCX the client can open

FAQ
WeTransfer recordings, the practical questions.
How long will a 5-hour recording take?
About 10 minutes once it has uploaded, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. On a 3 GB file the upload itself is often the longer part, so start it on a steady connection and the transcript waits in your Library.
What will the whole recording cost?
Five hours is 300 minutes, inside the $6 pack of 500, leaving 200 minutes for the next job. If a client sends twelve hours across several transfers, 720 minutes, the $12 pack of 2,000 covers it.
Will a 3 GB file upload?
Yes. One file can be up to 5 GB and 10 hours. Before a first pack the upload limit is 2 GB, so a 3 GB file starts once a pack is on the account.
The transfer had several files. Can each go up?
Yes, each file is its own upload and its own transcript. If the recording was split by the camera into parts, upload each part; there is no need to join them first.
Does it matter what language the client recorded in?
No setting is needed: 99 languages are detected automatically, from Spanish to Hebrew to Afrikaans. Where the speakers change language partway, detection follows the language used most.
Is a client's recording kept private?
The file is transcribed on our own servers and never used for training, and you can delete the recording and transcript once the job is done. Hand the client a TXT or DOCX, or export SRT, VTT or JSON.
