Transcribe long recordings from a Zoom H5 whatever capsule was on the front.
A Zoom H5 records WAV or MP3 to an SD card, and a 6-hour session from it comes back as text in about 12 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and the 360 minutes of a 6-hour day fit a $6 pack of 500 minutes with at least 140 left.
Long sessions on the H5
The capsule shapes how the room sounds. The file it leaves is a plain WAV or MP3.
Capsules change the sound, not the file
The H5 takes interchangeable microphone capsules, such as the X/Y capsule it ships with or a shotgun capsule for a speaker further away. Whichever you used, the card holds an ordinary WAV or MP3, and both upload here as they are. A tighter capsule aimed at the speaker usually gives the cleaner text.
A full day passes 5 GB in WAV
Stereo WAV at 24-bit, 48 kHz runs about 1 GB an hour, so a 6-hour day is roughly 6 GB, over the 5 GB that one file may be. Either upload it as two halves, split at a break, or export the day as MP3, which at 320 kbps is under 900 MB for six hours.
Inputs on their own tracks
When panel microphones go into the H5's inputs as separate tracks, each file holds part of the room. Mix the tracks to one file before uploading so every speaker lands in the same transcript and on the same clock.
What a long day gives you
A conference day comes back with a brief, chapters for each session with timestamps, and the names, numbers and dates said from the stage. Speakers are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, so a session recap starts from the right person.
Long recorder sessions elsewhere
A day on a field recorder is easy to capture and slow to use.

FAQ
Zoom H5 recordings, the common questions.
How long does a 6-hour H5 recording take?
About 12 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. A 9.31-hour file on the proof page finished in 1,033 seconds.
What does a long day cost?
A 6-hour day is 360 minutes, which fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes. A three-day conference recorded the same way is 1,080 minutes and fits the $12 pack of 2,000. If you are new, the first 20 minutes are free.
My day-long WAV is over 5 GB. What are my options?
Split it at a break into two files of under 5 GB each, or export it as MP3. Each file can be up to 5 GB or 10 hours, and uploads over 2 GB start once a pack is on the account.
Do I need to tell it which capsule I used?
No. The capsule changes the sound, not the format, and nothing needs setting before you upload. Choose the file or mix where the speech is clearest.
Which languages does it handle?
99 languages are detected automatically, including Tagalog, Hebrew, Swedish, Portuguese and Zulu. A recording that switches language is detected on its main language.
Which exports are there, and is the session kept private?
The export list is TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete any recording and its text.
