Transcribe long recordings from a Zoom H1n straight off the microSD card.
A Zoom H1n writes WAV or MP3 files to its microSD card, and a 3-hour lecture from it comes back as text in about 6 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, a $6 pack of 500 minutes covers that lecture, and a full term of recordings fits the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes.
From the card to the text
Take the file off the recorder and drop it here, no conversion needed.
Where the file is
The H1n records to a microSD card, and the takes sit there as numbered WAV or MP3 files. Connect the recorder by USB as a card reader, or put the card in a reader, then drag the file onto this page. Both formats upload as they are, with nothing to convert.
WAV or MP3 for a long lecture
A 16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo WAV is about 635 MB per hour, so a 3-hour lecture is roughly 1.9 GB, just under the 2 GB that uploads before a pack. At 24-bit and higher sample rates the file passes 2 GB sooner. An MP3 at 128 kbps is about 58 MB per hour and transcribes just as well.
A term of lectures
Two 90-minute lectures a week for 13 weeks is 39 hours, or 2,340 minutes. That is more than the $12 pack holds, so the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes is the one to buy, with at least 2,660 minutes left. A single lecture fits the $6 pack.
Notes you can revise from
Each lecture comes back with a brief of the main argument and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, and the names, numbers and dates the lecturer said. The chat answers questions about the lecture, such as what was said about the exam.
Recorder files elsewhere
A long WAV from a handheld recorder is too big for many transcription tools.

FAQ
Zoom H1n recordings, the common questions.
How long does a 3-hour H1n recording take?
Roughly 6 minutes, because processing takes about 2 minutes per audio hour. The proof page shows a 2.48-hour file finished in 200 seconds.
What does a lecture, or a whole term, cost?
The opening 20 minutes are free the first time you visit. A 3-hour lecture is 180 minutes on the $6 pack of 500 minutes. A term of 39 hours belongs on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes, at $0.29 an audio hour.
My WAV is over 2 GB. Will it upload?
Files up to 2 GB upload before a pack, and a larger file starts once a pack is on the account. Every file can be up to 5 GB or 10 hours. Recording in MP3 keeps long sessions far below both limits.
The recorder made several files for one lecture. Should I join them first?
Upload each file as it is, or join them in an audio editor if you want one document. A single upload of up to 10 hours keeps everything on one clock.
Which languages can the lecture be in?
99 languages, detected automatically, with no setting to choose. A lecture that mixes a main language with quoted terms in another is detected on the main one.
Which formats come back, and who hears my recording?
You get TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON downloads. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete any file and its text.
