For people who follow the House

Every briefing, question and reply of a committee day, searchable the same afternoon.

No download step

Paste the link to the stream replay and the audio is fetched for you. A replay longer than 6 hours starts once a pack is on the account; a shorter one starts straight away.

Committee days in minutes

A five-hour portfolio committee meeting comes back in about 10 minutes, and a full plenary day of eight hours in about 16. Staff, researchers and reporters can read a department's briefing before the news cycle moves on.

Find one member's question

Chapters follow the agenda, and the key quotes name the member or official speaking. Search a department name or an amount to land on the minute it came up.

Ask the recording

A chat over the transcript answers questions such as what the department said about its spending target, and points back to the passage. Local files go through upload page.

Why sittings go unread

Proceedings stream for hours, and few people can watch them live.

✗ Watching the replay

A committee day on video can only be followed at the speed it was spoken, with no text to search.

  • Hours of video per meeting
  • Downloading the replay first
  • Captions that cannot be searched
  • Apps that stop after an hour
  • No list of figures quoted
  • Waiting for the official record

✓ Text from the link

The replay becomes a document you can read, search and quote by timestamp. Researchers who follow several committees can keep a week of meetings searchable in one Library.

  • Paste the link, no download
  • Five hours of committee in about 10 min
  • Chapters by agenda item
  • Amounts and dates listed
  • Members named in the summary and quotes
  • SRT to caption your own clips

FAQ

Parliamentary recordings, answered.

How fast is a long committee meeting transcribed?

About 2 minutes per hour of audio, so a five-hour meeting takes about 10 minutes and an eight-hour sitting about 16. A public test run on long files transcribed 9.31 hours in 1,033 seconds.

What do a month of committee meetings cost?

Ten meetings of four hours each are 40 hours, or 2,400 minutes, above the $12 pack's 2,000, so the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes is the one that covers them. A single sitting of up to eight hours fits on the $6 pack. Prices are in US dollars, with no subscription.

Can I paste a YouTube link to the stream?

Yes. YouTube videos and live replays work from the link, as do Vimeo and Google Drive share links. A replay over 6 hours starts once a pack is on the account.

What about a sitting longer than 10 hours?

One file holds up to 10 hours. For a longer day, download the recording and cut it at a break into two files, each of which comes back with its own timeline.

Does this replace the official record?

No. It is a text for following proceedings and working from. The record published by Parliament remains the authoritative version. Use the text to find a passage quickly, then check the wording against the official version before quoting it in print.

Which formats and languages, and where does the audio go?

Speeches in English, Afrikaans or Zulu are detected automatically, among 99 languages. Downloads for a sitting include TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. The audio is transcribed on our own servers and is never used for training.
