Transcribe a recording made on a factory floor talks and handovers over the machines.
A recorder left running through a shift's toolbox talks and handovers on a factory floor can hold eight hours, and eight hours comes back as text in about 16 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and the whole shift fits a $6 pack of 500 minutes.
What a production floor does to audio
Presses, conveyors and compressed air. Speech near the recorder still makes it through.
Noise louder than the talk
On a working floor the machines are often louder than the person speaking. The transcription follows speech, so steady machine noise is not written down, but a voice drowned at the recorder is a voice lost. Holding the talk at the edge of the floor, or clipping a phone to the supervisor, makes the biggest difference.
Short talks, long recordings
A toolbox talk lasts ten to fifteen minutes; a handover a few more. The useful file is the whole shift with all of them in it, or a week of talks joined together. One file can run to 10 hours, and the chapters split it back into each talk.
What a shift costs
Eight hours is 480 minutes, which fits inside the $6 pack of 500. A week of five recorded shifts, 2,400 minutes, needs the $24 pack of 5,000 at about $0.29 per audio hour. A site that records every week could look at the $19 monthly Workspace. Use upload page or drop the shift file here.
A written record of what was said
The brief lists the hazards raised, the figures and dates mentioned, and the questions the talk answered. Supervisors are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, so the next shift can read what the last one handed over.
Why handovers go missing
The message was said out loud, once, next to a running line.
✗ Handover by word of mouth
Information passes from shift to shift by memory, and a sign-off sheet records that a talk happened but not what it said.
- A sign-off sheet with no content
- Details lost between night and day shift
- A free tier that ends before the shift does
- A shift of audio nobody will replay
- Talks repeated because no one wrote them down
- No timestamp to find one instruction
✓ Every talk in writing
The recording from the shift comes back as a document that can be filed or read at the start of the next one.
- About 16 minutes for an 8-hour shift
- The first 20 minutes free to test the noise
- 480 minutes of a $6 pack
- Each talk and handover as a chapter
- Hazards and figures in the brief
- DOCX for the file, JSON for your systems

FAQ
Factory floor recordings, answered.
How long does a shift recording take to transcribe?
Close to 2 minutes per hour of audio. A single 15-minute toolbox talk is back in well under a minute, and a full 8-hour shift in about 16 minutes.
What does an 8-hour shift cost?
It uses 480 minutes of the 500 in a $6 pack, $0.72 per audio hour. A week of five shifts is 2,400 minutes and fits the $24 pack of 5,000. A first-time visitor gets the first 20 minutes free, and a pack transcribes the rest of a longer recording from where the preview stopped.
Do I need to cut the shift into separate talks?
No. One file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, so a full shift goes up as one file. Before the first pack, uploads up to 2 GB go through; an audio recording of a shift is normally a small fraction of that. Chapters divide the shift back into talks.
How much does machine noise cost?
Steady noise costs little. The loss comes when a press or a horn is louder than the speaker at the recorder, which can cover a few words. Close the recorder to the person talking and away from the loudest machines.
Our teams speak several languages. Does that matter?
99 languages are detected automatically, including Spanish, Portuguese, Tagalog, Korean and Afrikaans. A talk given in one language with a summary in another is detected on its main language.
What formats do I get, and who can access the audio?
Downloads are TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Site audio does not leave our hands: recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and recordings can be deleted at any time.
