Zoom and Teams files · 4 h in about 8 min · first 20 min free

Transcribe recordings made in a home office the long calls you could not take notes on.

Long calls recorded at a home desk, such as a four-hour Zoom workshop or a Teams training session, come back as text in about 8 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and a $6 pack of 500 minutes covers a 4-hour call with at least 260 minutes left.

Recorded at your desk

The call is over. The recording on your drive is the only full record of it.

Where your Zoom file went

A local Zoom recording lands in a Zoom folder inside Documents by default, as an MP4 for the video and an M4A with only the audio. Upload the M4A when you can: it is the smaller file and carries the same speech. A Teams recording has to be downloaded first and then uploaded here.

What a home room adds

Bare walls and a laptop microphone give a slightly boxy sound, and the call itself compresses every voice. Speech still comes through clearly enough for full sentences. A fan, a dog or a delivery at the door is not speech and mostly drops out.

Four hours, worked out

A 4-hour call is 240 minutes. On the $6 pack that leaves at least 260 minutes, enough for four more two-hour calls before you think about buying again. If you record every week as a team, the $19/month Workspace is the plan built for that.

From call to follow-up

You get a brief with the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, and the names, numbers and dates that were said. Participants are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, so the follow-up message can say who agreed to what.

Why long calls go unread

The built-in transcript of a call platform is fine for half an hour, and tiring for four.

✗ Working from the raw video

Scrubbing through hours of video to find the moment a number was agreed.

  • Captions panel text with no structure
  • A transcript you can only read inside the meeting app
  • Hours of video to scrub for one decision
  • Notes written by whoever had a free hand
  • Action items lost after the call ends
  • A recording that expires from the cloud

✓ Working from the text

One document for the whole call, organized by topic.

  • About 8 minutes for a 4-hour file
  • 20 minutes free before you decide
  • Chapters for each agenda item
  • Owners named in the summary
  • Search across every word
  • DOCX for the shared drive, SRT for the video

A long team call recorded at home, as it comes back.

This sample is illustrative and was written for this page, not taken from anyone's call. The timestamps run across a four-hour working session.

FAQ

Home office recordings, the common questions.

How fast does a 4-hour Zoom recording come back?

In about 8 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. A 90-minute call takes about 3. Public timings for long files, including 4.94 hours in 372 seconds, are on the long-files proof page.

What does a 4-hour call cost?

If this is your first visit, the opening 20 minutes cost nothing. The 240 minutes of a 4-hour call fit inside the $6 pack of 500 minutes with at least 260 remaining. There is no subscription, and the credits do not expire.

My Zoom MP4 is several gigabytes. Will it still go through?

Uploads up to 2 GB work before a pack, and a larger file starts once a pack is on the account, up to 5 GB or 10 hours per file. The audio-only M4A that Zoom saves next to the MP4 is usually a small fraction of the size.

Do I have to cut the call into pieces?

No. A single file of up to 10 hours goes in whole, and the chapters do the dividing for you. Only a recording longer than 10 hours needs to be sent as two files.

Our team speaks Tagalog and English in the same call.

That works. 99 languages are detected without a setting, and a call that switches between English and Tagalog is handled in one recording.

What can I download, and is the call private?

Downloads include TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Nothing joins your meetings; you upload the file after the call.
