2 to 3 hour lectures · about 6 min · a unit on one pack

Transcribe university lecture recordings in Australia, a whole unit at a time.

Students and staff at Australian universities can turn a 2 to 3 hour lecture recording into text in about 4 to 6 minutes, and the first 20 minutes are free. A 12-week unit of 2-hour lectures is 1,440 minutes, which fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes; prices are in US dollars and your card converts them at checkout.

For the week-ten catch-up

Twelve weeks of lectures, turned into notes you can search the night before the exam.

From the lecture capture system

Most lectures are recorded by the university and posted in the learning management system. Where your university lets you download a recording, download it and upload the file here; a lecture shared as a YouTube or Vimeo link can be pasted directly.

Search the semester

Each lecture returns with chapters, a brief of the main points and the terms, dates and figures the lecturer gave. Ask the chat where a concept was explained and it points to the minute, across a recording you would otherwise have to replay.

The arithmetic for a unit

One unit with a 2-hour lecture each week for 12 weeks is 24 hours, or 1,440 minutes, inside the $12 pack of 2,000. A full load of four units with 2-hour lectures is about 96 hours; that is more than the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes, so pair it with the $12 pack.

Long seminars too

Postgraduate seminars and three-hour intensives go in as one file, up to 10 hours or 5 GB. Before the first pack, uploads can be up to 2 GB, which covers most lecture videos; audio-only downloads are far smaller.

Why lecture recordings go unused

Every lecture is recorded, and almost nobody rewatches them.

✗ Rewatching at double speed

With lectures available online, it is easy to fall behind and then face 20 hours of video in exam week. Watching faster helps a little, but it does not tell you where the answer to one question was.

  • A backlog of unwatched lectures
  • Captions that cannot be searched across weeks
  • Notes that stop at the slides
  • No way to find one worked example
  • Typing quotes for an essay by hand
  • Tools that cap a file at an hour

✓ Lectures as text

Each recording becomes a searchable document with chapters and a brief. Over a semester those documents add up to a set of notes for the whole unit, built from what was actually said.

  • About 6 minutes for a 3-hour lecture
  • Chapters you can turn into study notes
  • Lecturer named in the summary and quotes
  • Definitions and dates pulled out
  • Chat that finds the worked example
  • DOCX or TXT for your notes app

FAQ

Australian lecture recordings, the common questions.

How quickly is a three-hour Australian lecture transcribed?

About 6 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. A standard 2-hour lecture takes about 4, so a week's lectures for a full load are usually done in under half an hour.

What does a semester cost?

A unit of 2-hour weekly lectures over 12 weeks is 1,440 minutes and fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes, about $0.36 an audio hour. A single lecture of up to 8 hours fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Prices are in US dollars; your card charges the converted amount at checkout.

Can I download lectures from my university's system?

That depends on your university and the unit. Where a download is allowed, upload the file. Where it is not, use your own recording made with permission, or a public link such as YouTube or Vimeo.

The video file is big. Will it upload?

Up to 2 GB before your first pack, then up to 5 GB or 10 hours per file. A 3-hour lecture video is usually well under that, and an audio export is a fraction of the size.

What about lectures in other languages or accents?

99 languages are detected automatically, and lecturers with any English accent are transcribed as spoken. A lecture given in another language, such as Mandarin or Korean, is detected without a setting.

What do I download, and is the recording private?

DOCX and TXT for notes, SRT and VTT for captions, JSON for tools. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete them at any time.
