2 to 3 h lectures · about 6 min for 3 h · first 20 min free

Transcribe university lectures in New Zealand a whole semester at a time.

A university lecture in New Zealand that runs two to three hours comes back as text in about 4 to 6 minutes, and a 12-week course of 2.5-hour lectures adds up to 1,800 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes covers that whole course at $0.36 per audio hour. Each lecture returns with a brief, chapters by topic and the names, dates and figures the lecturer gave.

For a semester of lectures

Twelve weeks of recordings, turned into notes you can actually revise from.

Revision from the brief

Each lecture's brief gives the thesis and takeaways, so the week's argument fits on one screen. Chapters with timestamps show where each topic began, and the list of names, dates and figures said aloud doubles as a revision sheet before exams.

The recording you already have

Download the lecture recording your course provides, or use your own recording from the seat, and upload it. One file holds 10 hours or 5 GB, and before a first pack uploads go up to 2 GB. A lecture posted on YouTube works from its link.

Te reo Māori in the lecture

Language is detected automatically from 99, English and te reo Māori among them. A recording is transcribed on its main language, so in an English lecture with passages in te reo, read those passages against the audio once before relying on them.

A semester, priced

Two courses of 12 lectures at 2.5 hours come to 3,600 minutes, past the $12 pack, so the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes covers both at $0.29 per audio hour. Credits never expire, so the remainder carries into next semester.

Why lecture recordings go unwatched

Nobody rewatches a three-hour lecture to find one definition.

✗ Scrubbing the lecture video

The recording is there, but without text the only search is dragging the playhead and listening.

  • Rewatching at double speed before exams
  • Auto-captions without chapters
  • Notes that stop when the lecturer speeds up
  • Free tiers too short for a long lecture
  • A subscription for one semester
  • Nothing to search across weeks

✓ A semester you can search

Every lecture becomes text with the same structure, so week three and week eleven read the same way.

  • About 6 minutes per 3-hour lecture
  • A brief, chapters and key terms
  • Lecturer and guests named in the summary
  • SRT and VTT captions
  • DOCX notes for each week
  • A chat to ask the lecture a question

Sample

A long evening lecture, as chapters.

This sample is illustrative, written for this page, and it does not quote a real lecturer or course. Labels mark chapters, and the lecturer is named in the summary and quotes.

00:00:35 Kia ora koutou. Tonight is the long session, so we will take a ten-minute break at the halfway mark.
00:12:40 Last week we left the model with two assumptions; tonight we relax the second one and see what breaks.
01:28:15 Write this down: the estimate is unbiased only if the sample is drawn at random, which ours was not.
02:41:50 The assignment is due at the end of week nine, and the marking guide is already on the course page.

FAQ

Lecture recordings, answered.

How quickly does a 3-hour lecture come back?

Around 6 minutes, and a 2-hour lecture about 4. A full week of recordings is usually done before you have finished the reading list.

What does a semester of recorded lectures cost?

Multiply the lectures by their length. Twelve 2-hour lectures are 1,440 minutes, which fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes, and anything over 2,000 minutes goes on the $24 pack, which holds 5,000. Prices appear in US dollars only.

The lecture video is large. Will it upload?

Before a first pack, a file up to 2 GB uploads, and anything larger starts once a pack is on the account. After that, one file can be 5 GB or 10 hours. Uploading the audio alone keeps a long lecture small.

Do I need to cut a long lecture into parts?

No. A lecture under 10 hours goes in whole and keeps one timeline, so the chapter timestamps match the video. Only a recording past 10 hours needs splitting into two files.

How does it handle te reo Māori?

Te reo Māori is among the supported languages. A recording is detected on its main language, so a lecture given mostly in English comes back in English, and passages in te reo should get one review pass against the audio before you quote them.

Which exports are there, and who sees the recording?

DOCX and TXT for notes, SRT and VTT for captions, JSON for a study tool. Lectures are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
