What it is
Transcribro is an ISC-licensed Android app that provides a voice-input keyboard and a system speech-to-text service other apps can call. It runs OpenAI's Whisper family through whisper.cpp with Silero VAD for voice detection, entirely on the device. It currently supports English only. It is distributed on the Accrescent store (recommended by the developer) and as signed APKs on GitHub; the latest release is 7 (7 August 2025).
Watch out for: English only (other languages are tracked in issue #18). It is a keyboard and speech service for typing, not a tool for transcribing saved recordings.
Recordings already on your phone
Transcribro types live speech. For a recording you already have, from the phone's browser:
- Open whipscribe.com on the phone and pick the file from your recordings, or paste a Google Drive link to it.
- The language is detected automatically, so recordings in languages Transcribro does not cover yet work too, and the transcript stays in the language that was spoken.
- Read the summary free. A pack from $6 (500 minutes) opens the full transcript and the downloads: TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Packs are one-time purchases and credits never expire.
- Files can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file.
